Software Half-Life 2: Episode Two Hands-On

Part 2 of IGN's five-part Half-Life 2 spectacular! In today's edition, feast your eyes on an Episode 2 hand-on preview!

Episode Two has Gordon and Alyx racing to the mysterious White Forest with Combine forces hot on their heels. A massive portal has opened over the ruins of City 17, causing powerful Portal Storms that shake the planet. Though the middle episode in the episodic trilogy has Gordon and Alyx constantly on the move, that doesn't mean there won't be time for some major revelations. In fact, Half-Life fans can expect a "substantial story" that reveals more details on the relationship between G-Man and Alyx. Ep. Two also introduces us to Dr. Magnusson, another Black Mesa survivor. Unfortunately, his connection to Gordon and Alyx will have to remain a mystery for now.

Unlike Episode One, which had more of a claustrophobic feel, much of Ep. Two takes place outdoors and in larger environments. This allows for some stunning views (Episode Two is being targeted at high-end PCs and, of course, next-gen consoles). There are some moments where, after firing a few super-heated rebarbs into a squad of Combine soldiers, you'll catch sight of the beautiful background. The portal over City 17 was easily spotted in several scenes when we played Episode Two, and despite the horrific nature of the unnatural phenomenon, it looked stunning.

"Episodic content lets us deliver the games faster...." BULLSHIT

They should take care of what they say and actually deliver on time. The game looks promising though.

Edit: Awesome! I knew it, they wont stop with episode 3. Super!
