Just the download. Apparently it was downloading the original shipping version then patching with all the updates before.

They say the base game is 83gb. I assume that means you can play the game with that.

Hey maybe I should do a Steam verify ? J/K !!! Dont do it !!
At the rate the game is growing with all the "world updates" in another year it will require a 512GB drive just for the game.

In a bit of good news, this is in the list of officially supported games from the new AMD FSR announcement, so should be some performance improvements coming this month.

Nice. That, plus the upcoming performance optimizations for the xbox release this summer, and MSFS should be practically a whole new game.

Rumors are suggesting that the xbox version of Flight Simulator will be launching next week. https://www.thegamer.com/xbox-series...ght-simulator/

There's been lots of chatter suggesting that along with the xbox version, that PC will be getting some really big performance optimizations as well... although that seems less likely to me since they just recently released a patch that included some performance optimizations. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I finally broke down and ordered a new GPU, so I'm getting some performance upgrades either way. Geez I can't believe I spent $1000 on a graphics card... it's a 6700xt, so it's only 2x MSRP, right? Luckily I just sold my Radeon 580 for $450, so that takes care of alot of it. btw, I paid $320 for the 580 almost 4 years ago, so everything is bonkers now.

That chatter is directly from the developers, and there is an upcoming beta solely for performance updates, at the very least we should likely be hearing more about that with todays weekly update. But given that the performance improvements were slated to come to PC after xbox optimizations were finished, it bodes well for an upcoming release announcement.

But will they ever fix the fu***** auto pilot? The REAL AP, not that stupid AI pilot junk.

EDIT: It currently works on some planes sometimes, but it seems EVERY SINGLE PATCH screws it up (or part of it) for one plane while it works for others. Then the next update fixes that one, but then another plane breaks, then the next update breaks both....ugh.

I've seen them before in earlier builds, but it is nice when it appears.

I reinstalled this today through game pass. Was flying and passed through some thunderstorms. I witnessed a rainbow too

btw, do most of you keep flying as a simulation? I disabled the ai and took control to fly lower to get a better look at the ground assets. It immediately stressed the aircraft and through me into the menu.

Thunderstorms are weird in this game. Sometimes you'll heard thunder and see lightning during nearly clear skies, and you'll see a tiny wisp of a cloud about 30 miles away...lol

Its still a juttery mess for me, even after upgrading my CPU, GPU, and ram. Currently rocking a Ryzen 5600X, Radeon 6700xt, and 32gigs of ram, all on a reasonably fast ssd.

The CPU optimization update comes out in 11 days, so that will help alot. Otherwise I think the issue is the amd GPU... Seems it doesn't handle ASW as gracefully as nvidia.

Still on the roadmap, is the dx 12 update, as well as future VR improvements. I would love to see them implement hand tracking, so you can interact with all the dials and switches that way.

For the most part it runs better than I expected in VR. However, I downloaded an F-22 fighter jet yesterday and if I try to fly close to the ground with it at full speed it gets horribly jittery. I have to keep it to under 300-400mph.

Also keep in mind that F-22 isn't an FS2020 native model, it's an FSX model ported over. When models are ported, they tend to not only look worse but also run worse.

Is it normal that when you get below a certain flying level closer to the ground, the frames tank?

Depends on the level.

Like if I'm at 30,000 feet and drop to 7,000-ish the game loads the detailed ground terrains and starts doing the houses and buildings. I notice a drop then.

They don't tank so much as I notice a slow down.

Might want to look at the detail levels and see if you can drop a slider down here and there to make the decrease in FPS less when you get descend.

Yeh building detail at max is rather intensive when down low, try dropping to med.

At this point I would wait to see what improvements tomorrow's update brings before playing with any settings.

Yeah probably a good idea. I keep hearing it should be very good for performance? Plus I'm looking forward to the discovery flights.

Update: pc patch is live (40.29 gb)

You'd think that the updates would be faster seeing as they are Microsoft.

I guess the server hamsters must be on strike or something.

I saw some benchmarks of FPS in Manhattan going up from the mid 30's to the mid 50's. Pretty impressive if legit. Can't wait to try it.

Default

Can confirm that there is a FPS increase. Went from 60 FPS over OKC to 80 FPS over the same areas with no changes to settings.

Some houses still look like teepees.
Some of the problems like frozen frames while turning and frozen menus are still there.
Haven't checked out anything else.

Still a nice little update. It should have released in this shape.
