r350 core bios flash advice plz

i know there have been tons of threads about this and i have read alot of them using search, but in all of them there are differences in opinion on whether or not its worth while to flash an R350 core with an XT bios.

i have a built by ATI 128mb 9800 pro R350 with samsung 2.86ns ram

if the new bios raises the voltage a little i think my card would have no prob running at XT speeds.

I have found the ATI R350 samsung E-die bios. would flashing to that give me a noticable performance increase?

sry i dont help u, but i never heared that a biso flash increases GPU voltage cause aint that hardware-locked? otherwise each Voltmod one does gotta be set down by the card each time u boot... or did i get that wrong?

Card voltages are purely a function of hardware with Radeons. The bios has nothing to do
with the cards voltages.

If you have Samsung 8E-GC2A's then the Giga-Cube P/N 113-A07518-100 Edie bios dated
8/29/03 will typically get you memory OC's in the 390's stone stock. if you have Samsung
RA-GC2A memory the Edie bios may or may not help them slightly. *E are much better OC'ers
than RA chips are.

XT or preferably XT'ized bios can be run with an R350 core but you will get display errors in DX9
depending on the shaders used. 3DM03 Battle of Proxycon and Trolls Lair are examples. You may
not see errors in games though depending on what you play but down the road in later games
the errors are bound to show up eventually.

The Gigacube bios above or the P/N 113-A07502-105 dated 3/14/03.

There were some dud R350 core's and it sounds like you managed to get one. Be sure you are
using the 113-A07518-100 Edie bios dated 8/29/03 and not the 4/29/03 dated version.

If you can only do 409/360 with an R350/8E card and the GC bios stone stock then yes your
core is not up to snuff. I've had two R350 cards than literally could not get out of their own
way OC wise. Customers sent the card to me for modding but they were so bad I just sent
the cards back to them after initial testing as there was no sense in putting money into them.
Bum R350 cores are out there. They are relatively few but they do exist.

DO NOT flash an 9700 or 9800 AIW card with a non AIW bios!!! You will wind up with
either no display or no boot situation.

let me get this straight, if we flash the r350 core with an XT bios, we will get higher clock speeds but artifacting due to different shaders used in the cores.

Do you know what is different between the XT and r350 bios' and why does XT bios give higher clock speeds? You said that it is not the voltage.
For memory I can only guess that timings are different so changing timings in the r350 bios to match timings from XT bios should give the same memory overclock speed. But what about core?

Is it possible to mod the r350 bios to get the same overclock but no artifacts?

XT or XT'ized bios images when used on 9800Pro cards benchmark better clock for clock than
the normal 9800Pro bios. When those bios images are flashed to an R350 card the display errros
in DX9 are not related to the clock speeds at all. They are display errors not artifacts. There is a
difference.

The default clocks speed of any 9700 or 9800 bios can be changed using RadEdit 1.1D and
then reflashing the card with the clock speed edited bios.
