Default windows activation

I can see why some people might be pissed off with it after this earlier incident:

(yes I blotted out the ID)

However, this method relies on repeatable, falsifiable hypotheses and theories. Only an extremely small spectrum of time and space can be rendered into these, or at least a good approximation of such.

you have complete control over microsoft update. if it 'secretly' installed, its because you have automatic updates on and not set to alert you before installing.

I saw some CRAZY XP activation crap today. Refused to generate an installation ID for activation. And another XP machine just lost it's activation while sitting on the bench. It's like it was activation hell today up here :/

You only need WGA to use Automatic Updates... if you can download the patches seperately (and you can) you can install them at leisure.

As far as details of the files, read the MS KB article and you'll get file names etc.

Im not ok with it, and why I hate using windows. Every time I reinstall the OS Im forced to call up to validate software I purchased. Its disrepectful to the consumer and Im tired of it.

Did I miss something? I had to work on a clients computer, because all of a sudden it became unactivated. I didn't do much to the machine, turned it on ran updates, etc...

everything was fine after that.

My Dad's laptop somehow became deactivated, now 2 days later it reactivated by itself, no need to call, no reactivate dialog...what happened beats me
