Surprising and just a little disappointing. Getting passed by TR some time back motivated the hell out of us, and the increased production from both of our teams has been fantastic. Here's hoping Ars will kick it up a notch and join us in a race for 2CPU!

EDIT: one thing you have to keep in mind is that [email protected] is just one of many DC projects in which Ars is involved. If they directed all their resources to [email protected] ... I suspect they'd take the #1 spot in a heartbeat.

How long does it take for your PC to do a work unit?

I have been watching my machine and I am doing a work unit every 3 or 4 days.
Good hell! I haven't had work units that long since the early days of [email protected]

I remember way back then when I finally got my PC to do a work unit in under a day. It was like 23 hours and some change.

When I first built my own personal A64 rig, it was folding 2 smaller ones a day. (200 or so points)

Now, its doing about one a day..

The best measurement is PPD, keeping mind that there are flag combinations that give you access to WUs w/ point bonuses. For example, my A64, running the -advmethods/bigWU combo is giving me just under 300PPD when folding 600 pointers (114x).

Right. Exercise caution when deciding to take on the -advmethods/bigWU combo. Using the -advmethods flag allows your machine to download & process WUs that are still in the late beta stage, so there is risk involved there regarding system stability. Likewise, the bigWU option in your client.cfg allows your machine to download & process WUs that are comparably memory intensive. Doing both raises the stakes even more and, if you're using a P4, gives you access to QMD core WUs which are arguably the most resource heavy available at this time. I use the combo only on boxes that are relatively speedy (p4 or axp and newer) and have min. 512mb of memory and prefer a full gig.
