There's some rumors floating around that PS5 has quite a bit more custom silicon than what's been revealed so far, including a much more advanced geometry processing engine that's basically a full generation ahead of RDNA2, which should give the PS5 a massive advantage over XBSX. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

lol

Don't buy into it. These kinds of unsubstantiated rumors are started by no-names looking for views and clicks.

I am. I was going to snag an xbox too, just because, but after the string of awesome titles I've had on the PS4 I have no reason to believe it won't continue like that on the 5.

So PS5 will get RDNA3 when RDNA2 hasnt even been released yet?

Makes SO much sense.....

I’m sure it’s also 10x more powerful than the series X and in the wrong hands could be used to take over the world!!

So advanced that Cerny forgot to mention it and have said nothing about it to date?

Don't buy into all the era and gaf BS. Their accuracy has been really bad lol.

Reminds me a lot of when the PS3 came out and developers couldn’t figure out how to take advantage of the cell processor. Has Sony not learned their lesson?

Yes?

This is PC parts, they have learned their lesson.

2080ti can't play everything at 4K60fps, so why would a card that is roughly 2080 level be able to play games with "next gen" graphics but at 4k30.

People are expecting too much from these machines, if they had DLSS 2.0 then it would be another story. As that fake 4k looks virtually the same as real 4k.

Yeah, what a shock...

Marketing at it's best, everyone scoops it up.

I'd be willing to bet XBox has similar issues. It might do better, but 4k 60fps in everything? Nope, not gonna happen.

This us more of a comparison between the new consoles where they are saying the XBox is not having these issues.

Perhaps, but a 1.8TF increase is hardly going to make any difference. XSX will have slightly better framerate or maybe slightly improved shadow resolution or other graphical features etc, but it's in no way going to make suddenly 4K viable.

All next gen machines will be using some sort of upscaling technique for the majority of games.

For me I'd rather they'd focus on 1440P and upscaling, I think 4K is a pointless thing to try to achieve unless these machines suddenly had DLSS 2 equivelant.

Agreed! It's not going to happen, so why fake it (besides marking reasons). Just make it 1440P, upscale it, and improve lighting and details. Good enough.

I'd be willing to bet XBox has similar issues. It might do better, but 4k 60fps in everything? Nope, not gonna happen.
Just like people believe all the negative fake news as well

For me I'd rather they'd focus on 1440P and upscaling, I think 4K is a pointless thing to try to achieve unless these machines suddenly had DLSS 2 equivelant.
Why is this so hard to understand for some people? The PS5 will EASILY be able to play a LOT of games at full 4k.

Let's look at the Xbox One X for example...it already plays many games at full 4k and many AAA titles at variable resolution very close to 4k. Digital foundry demonstrated that with an AMD RDNA 1.0 GPU it only took a little over 50% more Tf power to double the performance of the One X with it's 6Tf GPU. Now both the PS5 and Series X will have massively more powerful and capable Zen 2 CPUs and RDNA 2.0 (think PS5 is slightly trimmed down) GPUs with what AMD says has 50% more performance per watt than RDNA 1.0...while that 50% figure probably is a bit inflated in real world it's still very significant as BOTH PS5 and Series X will have more than the approx 9Tf RDNA 1.0 that doubles the performance of the One X and with a GPU that promises to be up to 50% more performance/watt. Add in the fact that these systems have much more memory bandwidth and can stream assets from SSD into memory and they are closed systems and you will have a PS5 that will easily handle full 4k and the Series X with even more performance.

It will ALWAYS be the case that a game can be made with so much CPU/GPU load that even a 3080Ti will struggle...games are also not always made to run efficiently either, but games with that much graphical requirements aren't easily or quickly made as we've seen by many major releases taking 5+ years to develop and budgets getting over $100 million....these won't be the average games.

I don't expect a massive graphical leaps anymore...we're running into limits of hardware and software development efficiency. Expect what we have now for most games but with higher resolutions, higher/more stable frame rates, and a few more/better graphical effects.

Will the new PS5 be able to run GTA 6 or Elder Scrolls 6 at 4k/60fps...likely not, but it will still run most games at 4k easily

It doesn't matter if the XBOX one X can already play some games at 4K (not many, some). Also when I'm talking 4K games I'm talking games from EA/Ubisoft etc not indie titles.

People want amazing graphics, not 4K current gen games. Yes for NOW they will be 4K but those will be basically looking virtually the same we have now crossgen games, just instead of terrible graphical settings they will be about the same as PC Ultra.

xbox one x played some 4K games at below than the lowest PC options. I'd much rather have 1440P and ultra visuals in that scenario.

However PC ULTRA doesn't look next gen does it? There's no way you're going to get OMG visuals and 4K30fps. You're going to get crossgen 4K titles that look similar to what we have now, and then after a year or two upscaling games.

It's going to run first year or two first party games for sure at 4K and probably some AAA games too as most games will be crossgen games.

Plus most of those titles will for sure be 30FPS still, maybe not the crossgen but the AAA next gen titles 100%.

You're overesitmating how powerful these machines are, 2080ti struggles at sometimes in 4k, yet you think a weaker console will somehow magically not.

To quote Luke Skywalker from a movie I will not mention...

"Amazing, every word of what you just said was wrong!"

Well not quite but you get the point

You consistently underestimate what these systems will be capable and time and time again year after year you will be proven wrong and I will be more than happy to point it out

You seem to keep forgetting...Closed systems/more efficient hardware/new features. There will be instances where the Series X will likely outperform a 2080Ti...which doesn't struggle wih 4k resolution, 4k60 in some games sure. Also, I've seen the comparisons of many games with PC settings cranked to max vs some of the lower settings and often times there's very little visable result compared to the extra computing required. I know it doesn't appeal to the lunatic PC Master race who believe that everything needs to be 144+fps and every detail possible higher than high but those people IMO are looking for every reason possible to justify their insanely overpriced hardware

Sounds like a lot of hopes and dreams about a console none of us have tested yet, while stating it as fact. Where's the proof?

4k60? Not gonna happen on the vast majority of games without compromised visual settings. It's a guess on my part being based on current evidence, willing to admit that. Could be wrong, but seriously doubt it.

Because it's not hard to figure out...

They spent 2 weeks porting over Gears 5 to the Series X to show as a demo...it ran over 60fps at 4k with every setting at the highest available on PC and a few even customized to run even higher (higher resolution textures, higher resolution volumetric fog, and higher particle count). According to The Coalition's Tech Director, Mike Rayner, they had the game running at 100fps back in March are are aiming for 120fps in multiplayer (most obviously with details dropped down) when it launches.

The One X already runs several games easily at 4k30 and that's with a MUCH less powerful and capable GPU and a pretty weak CPU. Series X (and PS5) are WAY more powerful than the One X. The new consoles have a lot more hardware features and optimizations beyond just raw processing power.

It will ALWAYS be the case that games will run sub 60fps and sub 4k (with variable resolution) as companies will always try to push everything to the max to "wow" people with graphics detail. Even if it were possible to make a $1000 console with double the power of the Series X this will still happen in some games. 4k60 will be far more common this time around though as they easily have the hardware to pull it off and still have lots of detail and effects
