Default Please Recommend me an Athlon 64 MOBO+cpu combo?

I'm leaning towards an Athlon 64 3000+ cpu (retail) (cost approx 145 shipped)

Not sure on what Mobo to get.. I need AGP.. at least 2 ddr slots.. Lan..usb..(nothing too fancy..) and possibly one with some overclocking features.

Also going to need a new PSU since mine melted.. (yep..melted the atx connector that hooks into the mobo.. had to PRY it off)

I've been looking around.. but nothing has really caught my eye.. so I'm not sure what to look for/buy.. it's been a while since I've looked into hardware (I'm upgrading from a XP 2000+).

I would like the Mobo to be under $100

any advice you can give me is GREATLY appreciated!

You mean Athlon64 3000 S939 right?

Epox 9NDA3J Nforce3 motherboard for $87
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813123230

Epox 9NDA3+ Nforce3 motherboard (with Firewire) for $98
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813123222

Probably one of the best AGP S939 boards available that fit your budget. The MSI Nforce3 is popular too, but it's out of your price range at Newegg. And before someone else mentions it I do not recommend Gigabyte brand motherboards anymore, too many problems and crappy support. Whatever brand you pick though, make sure it has an Nforce chipset

------------

Now in the off chance you meant Athlon64 3000 S754, I can easily recommend my board. I have the Asus K8N-E (with Firewire) which is out of your price range, but they have the non-Firewire Asus K8N motherboard for only $67
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131512

------------

In case you are wondering, Firewire is the same thing as IEEE1394. It is primarily used for digital video camcorder. So if you don't own one of these, then you probably don't need Firewire. And you could always purchase a cheap Firewire PCI card later if needed.

------------

For power supply, I recommend the Antec True Power II series with no less than 430w. It's a quality power supply, and it has dual +12V rails. That means it supplies plenty of juice to the CPU and video card.

True Power II - 430w for $69
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103928

Neopower (modual, fancier, same price as True 480w) - 480w for $109
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103924

True Power II - 480w for $115
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931

Note: Do not buy Antec Smart power because they have weaker rails. Make sure you buy True Power II and not the regular version or you won't get the dual +12v rails. Do not buy the EPS version, that's for servers.

the 3000+ should be a great choice from a price to performance point of view.

if you want agp, go with anything based on nforce3 chipset. The biggest difference between boards based on the same chipset is features and layout, so its hard for me to recommend a specific model without knowing exacly what you need.

antec truepower series, enermax 'noisetaker', seasonic s12 series are all great powersupplies. I prefer seasonic's psus because they are very quiet, but any of the above types are also very good. If you have a windowed case, you may want to consider an OCZ mod stream.
