And it'd take $2,000 of computer equipment to get the same power, so what's the big deal? I'm actually glad consoles are raising in price, because it'll make computer gaming more reasonable and attractive and we'll get more games.

Maybe the big deal is that they are charging us an extra $100 for it, even after taking VAT into account.

No big supprise. Us brits always get it up the rear for this kind ot thing. It costs more than your average car to get a decent HD TV here =(

I think some people look at consoles as the low cost alternative to PC gaming. At this rate, in a couple of years, there won't be a low cost alternative.

I'm getting sick of sony trying to justify the high price of the ps3, just for that blu-ray player, which the $499 model can't even play in it's full 1080p glory!

Blu-Ray this, Blu-Ray that! what's next? Sony saying it's a good thing to trade up your leg for a blu-ray player....

And Sony is still defending that games will need 50gb of space and with blu-ray devs can do so much more things (I still ask myself how?). There is still not a single game that fills up a complete DVD9! and the max space of a dvd is up to 4 layers so that would mean 17+ GB I'm pretty sure Sony will force developers to fill up a 8GB used Blu-Ray disc with 0's and 1's to make it look like it's using a lot more space!

I hope blu-ray is going to fail and than sony can explain to me again why i pay so much for a console that has blu-ray in it!

I work in a factory at nightshift , i get £270 a week like i stated before after tax, plus i work 40 hours.

I don't understand what you mean by work in a site? a website? building site? Same thing goes for driver .

£270 a week is enough for me seeing as i still live at home though the more i could make the better. As i never argue with more money .

Someone mentioned UK includes tax in their prices (is this by law?). I wonder
if this is the case? Can someone explain this?

That's a very high price indeed. Too high, in fact, for something that many
see as a videogame console. Until the Playstation brand connotes more than
just videogames (let's face it, you hear playstation, you think games) I really
don't think sony should charge so much, regardless of how great the components
are.

Anyhow, time will tell how well the system will sell. I'm sure glad that I live in
Canada where it'll be $659 + tax ($757.85) Canadian. Crap, that's still very
high, actually.

Hmm... I know I'll own one, but I'm really not sure if I'll pick one up at launch.
I still have yet to get a 360 too as I'm waiting for some games to come out
that I like to justify the purchase. Being that consoles are getting pretty
high priced (I'm still worried the Wii will be $250 US), folks might just wait until
the really good games come out before purchasing the machine.

Nf.

Most products sold in the UK include VAT. A number of categories are exempt, such as food, pharmaceuticals and children's clothes. Consumer goods are rated at 17.5%
