I was thinking about the application whitelist and the benefits/drawbacks that offered. On the plus side, you can fine tune application performance to deliver the best experience.

Being able to force the use of a specific GPU, be it dGPU for performance or iGPU for power saving, is a nice feature for managing the user experience to meet expectations. However, it's reliant on driver updates, accurate profiling of how applications use the hardware.

This lead me to think about PowerTune technology. It provides instantaneous workload counters, which could be used to contain an application to the right hardware, and manage the power profile more. Using PowerTune on the dGPU could allow for fine-tuning performace/watt to extend battery life in portable devices, and lower power/heat in embedded or small form factors.

Today we updated the article to reflect a request from AMD to clarify that comments by Asif were not related to the PowerXpress 4.0 leak.
