Oh that's wonderful, but the thing is that only run on two cores @ 8.3Ghz.

Man, I would love to be there when they did something like this.

Gotta say, that's pretty freaking impressive that they got all 8 cores running at those clocks.

And why can't you talk about performance just yet when AMD is already touting Bulldozer as a shipping product?

1/ Bulldozer is the codename of core microarchitecture design. It is used in several products, codenamed Zambezi, Interlagos, Orochi. Zambzi is the codename of the FX processor. Interlagos is a dual-die multi-chip module for servers, Opteron 6200 series.

2/ AMD have announced shipping to customers of Interlagos. Customers of AMD who buy Interlagos are Cray Supercomputers, Dell, HP etc. That's not the same as shipping to consumers and users.

So, as Alex says, shipping doesn't mean launched, and doesn't mean that confidentiality can be breached.

Wow all 8 cores is quite impressive..I'm no overclocker but both my daughters build and my own will have H100's in them..I'm not opposed to a small increase in the multi at stock voltages.

It just seems very disingenuous to say 'hey we clock great!' but not actually discuss performance. Bulldozer has been mostly marketing hype so far, and it looks like AMD wants to continue with that right until the end. Which is disheartening.

Intel is also not in the habit of discussing performance of products not launched so I fail to see what you're bitching about.

Previewing a metric because it is a 'world record' even though it may not correlate with actual performance? Just annoying when marketing talks up a product without revealing anything substantial about it.

So does this mean I can overclock as long if I have a keg a liquid nitrogen and a lackey continuously pouring it over my CPU?

In all fairness they do tend to do an early performance reveal, or at least have done so in recent iterations like Sandy Bridge for example. Remember Anand (and perhaps others?) having some early numbers out. Also, I'm pretty sure that the Sandy EP preview on Tom's is not an unsanctioned one. However, Intel has the benefit of not being in danger of looking poorly versus the competition, or even earlier parts, so their early reviews serve merely to get them salivary glands going. AMD may not have the same luxury...

Why do you think it is disingenuous? It's a validated world record, I don't think there's any attempt to imply any other causality here.

It's designed to create excitement about the product. As someone who is very interested in AMD's next processor I don't want more feel good article - I want numbers. i.e. I'm impatient.

You can always jump ship. I don't actually need a CPU upgrade right now, but 8 cores of potential sex? Yes please, I'll wait .

Just useless e-peen stroking from AMD without benches to go with it. They can't even prove how stable it was. For all we know, a stock 2500k can beat the o/c'd BD. The deafening silence, along with the endless delays, are making BD look like another Phenom I debacle.

Thanks for quoting me!

BOT, I really doubt a stock 2500k could beat that but we'll see soon enough.
