Wrap Up and Preliminary Thoughts

Who's Gonna Stop Me?

The AMD ATi Radeon HD5870 is a powerful card. With an MSRP of $379 it's priced higher than the previous generation high end, but has more to offer. Eyefinity, DirectX 11, and gobs of raw power.

Being an early adopter of any new tech is fraught with peril, you have to wait for the good stuff and you're always beta testing. With the HD5870, our ride wasn't completely smooth either, with odd installation and testing issues meaning it's now 4:30am on the morning of NDA lift - and we're still wrapping up.

So expect to see more from Rage3D on the subject of the HD5870 - as we stated in the beginning, we're going to take a longer look at CPU scaling, comparisons with current generation cards, and explore some more of what the new AA modes mean for you.

At AMD's VISION event we not only heard how AMD have been putting hardware samples in developer and ISV's hands, but also how performance in the 4800 series improved 30% over the year since release.

Our first impressions of the card remain - 'Holy Hell, its fast!' It doesn't outperform everything everywhere, yet. As DX11 adoption gathers momentum, early adopters will be enjoying the new cool features and games.

If you can find one in stock, snap it up.
