Today we're looking at the HIS Radeon HD 7870 IceQ X Turbo. Featuring AMD's Pitcairn XT GPU core, it has an upgraded heatsink and fan design named IceQ X, designed to offer low noise levels with great thermal management. When AMD released the Radeon HD 7800 series of graphics add-in boards (AIBs) featuring the Pitcairn GPU core, it specified that the core clock of the HD 7870 (Pitcairn XT) would be designated GHz Edition. This is based on the core clock of the GPU being, you guessed it, 1GHz, but that moniker applies to any partner edition card that operates at that frequency; or higher.

HIS offers three versions of the IceQ, all using the IceQ X axial cooler but differentiated by clock speeds. Here, HIS has taken the AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition and turned up the dials, winding out the GPU clock to 1.1GHz, a 10%/100MHz increase over the stock specification. The memory clock isn't tweaked, sitting at the stock 1200MHz / 4.8Gbps. HIS has also replaced the stock heatsink with their heatpipe cooler featuring a central axial fan, giving this card a final product name of the HIS Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition IceQ X Turbo, product code H787QNT2G2M. This is the middle IceQ X SKU, the lesser featuring stock AMD GHz Edition clocks and the greater X Turbo X (a nod back to the glory days of the R580 XTX etc. cards) running with overclocked memory, too.
