"Reverse Hyperthreading does not exist"

APOLOGIES to the fanbois, but I am about to kill some nice AMD dreams. Reverse Hyperthreading does not exist. It's one of the bigger loads of bluff and bluster cooked up in a long time.

AMD doesn't have any such technology. It would like to have it but even the upcoming K8L quad core won't be able to present a dual or quad core as a single core to the Operating system.

Oh btw: By Fuad Abazovic: Monday 10 July 2006, 11:34

(I'm sure Shai will crack in half right about when he sees that name :D )

Sorry, had to post this even tho' I consider Fuad, or FUD as we like to call him, as reliable as MSFT marketing department :)

Fraud must die. For the good of mankind. I'm sure the government of his country will understand.

First and foremost, his understanding of RHT is laughable. RHT does not present 1 core to the O.S. RHT is a technology that is transparent to software. The O.S. sees as many cores as there are. The whole concept of RHT is that instructions can be sent down the pipeline of any core on the die.

So, in Fraud's limited world-view he can only see forward to the next micro-architecture at any point in time. So, because he doesn't think RHT will be in K8L it doesn't exist? In the words of Jigga "scuse me, I had ta laugh at dat"

They had originally some "slight" mistakes in that "article".
Original title was: "Reverse Hypertransport does not exist"
When I read it I laughed my ass off.

That's pretty worrysome tho, considering the current word is we may not even SEE K8L until 2008. That would put 2007 COMPLETELY and undeniably in Intel's hands. RHT was my only hope to not go Conroe in 2 months time, now that hope is gone and I will be joining the Dark Side of the force.

As somebody else said already, Conroe FTW! Still debating on wether I'll splurge on the X6800 or save those bucks and just get the E6700 and get more vid card power instead. E6700 + R600 looking MIGHTY tasty right about now...

I think he's there just to generate more readership. what better way to get random hits than by people flaming you away on forums.

Funny thing is Faud is almost single handedly responsable for my LACK of readership nowadays. I'll go look at the OCCASIONAL link, but I don't check thier site daily like I used to because of the lies he's been busted in one too many times.

K8L will not be delayed. 1H 2007 launch. Count on it. RHT is up in the air. It exists, and it will be released eventually, it's just a matter of when.

As for Core 2 - I'm going dual Core 2 Duo Xeons (3.0GHz, 4M L2, 1.33GHz FSB) in a month or two here

I think rht might be in K10; K8L seems less likely. even so the improved backend of the K8L will probably make AMD competitive again. from what I've seen conroe is exposing weaknesses of the K7/K8 architecture that AMD didn't bother to fix due to time to market reasons (the fact that K8 smacked Netburst silly indicates AMD made the right choice). Plus Intel's use of massive cache sizes has negated the advantages of AMD's onboard memory controller for the most commonly used programs (benchmarks, games, etc). It's a cat and mouse game between these two; at least now AMD is a little stronger (financially) than before.

Heh, that's gonna be some serious scratch :p

I take it Woodcrest's movement up the Rage3D team's ladder has NOTHING whatsoever to do with that decision, does it? ;)

Oh, just a wee bit ;)

Question tho, since those are Xeons, are you giving up on overclocking then? Or have you found a dually Xeon board that has enthusiast features? If so, I might be swayed to go that route with a single Xeon and snag another down the line. And are the 1333mhz fsb woodcrests already out? Otherwise I'd rather get the single X6800 or E6700 and OC the hell outta them to around 3.2Ghz if only the E6700 or maybe even 3.33Ghz for the X6800 if I go that route. Intel chips have always been very overclockable so a minimum 333mhz OC shouldn't be outside of the realm of achievement.

Haven't found a board yet, haven't even started looking. All I know is that the CPUs are out, and can be had for $930 each. I'm sure there will be a dual socket mobo on the market that will allow me to run Crossfire by the time I'm ready to buy (probably in a couple months, maybe sooner if I just buy one CPU at first).

Do me a favor if you would, Shaidar. While looking for your mobo of choice, if you come accross one that has decent fsb/vcore adjustments PLEASE lemme know by PM or whatever and I'll do the same back. I'm thinking that 1.33Ghz fsb sounds ALOT more yummy then 1.06Ghz fsb does when your talking fsb's.

$930 is better then what they'll be asking for the X6800 and sounds like the chip itself is superior in every way to it. Honestly, unless they unlock multipliers on the Extreme Editions (which I wouldn't know, never tried to OC one of the netburst ones and never touched or seen one of the Core based ones), then there's NO reason in the WORLD to go X6800 over Xeon, except taking into account the X6800's better enthusiast board support that is a given.

Goin on over to Monarch's site now to start checking prices :D

Edit: Apparently niether Monarch nor Newegg is not showing anything newer then Dempsey/Irwindale, no sign of Woodcrest based chips yet on thier sites. I have to find a place to buy that will let me pay by sending them in a money order by snail mail. Once I find somebody with em in stock, I may just order now...

Was there ever a ton of evidence that RHT existed in the first place? Wasn't it just some Russian article and then everyone filled in their own speculation from there?
