Update on BluRay vs HDDVD

Who is AMD backing?

This doesn't concern AMD as they are only focused on CPU, Flash and connectivity Solutions (ie Geode).

In regards to HD-DVD vs Blue Ray. I don't care much for Sony and their garbage, they make you pay a premium for their product and then give you sub par equipment that cost too much to fix

Fairly interesting news indeed. The battle gets more interesting as we get closer to the first players being released :)

Well it's fairly obvious there's just going to be universal players and play both formats...but it REALLY hurts consumers. Do you really want to go into a video store and see 3 different versions of the same movie? DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray? Then what happens when one format dies out and stops being supported? You have a pile of coasters...yay!!

It is annoying, but even if you buy into one format you don't end up any worse really. You end up having to buy another player(if it wasn't duel format to start with).

All the movies you bought for the previous format are perfectly fine. Just play them on the player you bought for em *shrug*. Not like the player you bought will then keel over and die. And even if it does that means getting a replacment is likely to be cheap :)

I remember going with DVD+RW and one of the reasons was that windows would support it better, years later, and I have a dual layer, dual format drive in my computer, and I never use windows software to burn anything off, so the whole point is moot. :)

HD-DVD won't be an issue for most people with computers, unless it's recordable ($$$), they won't be able to use it without a new monitor, better off with a regular dvd+-RW drive. Of course they could hook it up to their $$$$ hdtv, if the inputs are compatible, but who wants to watch movies with a noisy computer in the room?

I support HD-DVD just to tick off Leech.
and other serious reasons :p

I care?

Blu-ray is simply the better technology, and reading all the FUD Microsoft and Intel has said in their respective press releases just helps prove that.

What would be interestingis IF, and I mean a big IF, Blu-Ray failed and HD-DVD was the new standard Sony would be screwed with their PS3

no, they would be stuck with a format thats hard to copy because the drives never caught on.

Let's hope Blu Ray doesn't turn out like SACD for Sony. Atleast this time they have support....for now......

:D I'm just joshing. But people take things way too seriously :o . Blu-ray is all well and good. But HD-DVD seems the way to go from an economical and technological standpoint. I assume that HD-DVD quality is only limited by the storage size of the media. If it gets too big than a second disc may be necessary (LOTR Extended edition).

Yes, this is really annoying me now. This whole war is just like to what BETA and VHS had back in the day. Truthfully, i dont care at this point. Just give me one friggn format already. Enough of this crappola.

It comes down to which format will screw the content providers less, and knowing Sony, I would say that will be HD-DVD.
