I just got my 980 today. My Radeon 7970 served for nearly 3 years! but it's time for an upgrade.

I was playing Watch Dogs at 1080p at mostly high settings, and it was pretty laggy. With the Geforce 980, I'm running at native 1440p with mostly maxed settings, and it's much smoother. Nothing really impressive about that, what else would you expect from a $550 new card. However...

I gave AssAss crud 4 a go with DSR set to 2x native, and it looked awesome! This is the feature the rant and rave about. Crazy that the press is only just mentioning it, and not testing it out. I also tried it briefly with Skyrim at 3x native.

I'd say this is the best upgrade I've had since the Radeon 9500 pro.
 
The GeForce GTX 970 is that rarest of things in the graphics card market - a genuine game-changer. In fact, it's actually more like a cooked hand grenade strategically lobbed into the high-end GPU market, designed to cause maximum damage to the competition - but in the process impacting just as many Nvidia cards too. It costs £260, which is a lot of money, but its performance per pound ratio is so strong that some might say there's little point considering any other high-end GPU currnetly available - and that includes Nvidia's own flagship GTX 980.

If video cards were videogames, nvidia would put this quote on their boxes, -the 980 part.
 
Holy crap. Looks like 2 970s are the way to go. Dayem at that performance once overclocked. In SLi they should rape and all for 660 boners.
 
I only benched Firestrike
7970 - 6342
970 - 9225

Played Crysis 3 1440p. Game saved at last level.
On 7970, frame rate would slow to unplayable at times.
On 970, butter smooth.

The down side is, I was expecting a much quieter card. The EVGA SC 970 is as loud as the XFX DD 7970.

I also tested GameStream to Shield playing Batman Arkham Asylum. That worked great.
 
That's because evga didn't use the reference cooler.

That is if you got the non-acx edition.

I almost ordered two of those evga 970s last night, but went with the MSI after reading the few reviews already up on the evga. Several complained that the cards were loud.
 
EVGA has sucked cock for me since the 680s. I ain't buying their products anytime soon. Their ACX cooler was the biggest POS ever created. Don't know how a few swear by it. If people tried ACX and then Gigabyte or ASUS they would truly understand dafuq EVGA did with that POS cooler.

680s were reference cards but the cooler seemed cheap ass.

Even the ACX ones are getting quite bad user reviews. They are noisy and at the same time, not cool the GPU enough. Apparently one of the heatpipe doesn't even make proper contact with the GPU.
 
Just got 3x MSI Gaming edition 980 cards as I need HDMI 2.0 for my 4K TV and since Amazon had them for 299.99 instead of 469.99 each due to a pricing error.
