i can't believe...but i just ordered a MSI 6800 NU...
after 3+ years using ATI cards i went to the dark side...
i'm really feeling bad....
what's up with ATI? there's not any radeon with the same price/performance ratio as the 6800NU... :(
****... :(
i will really miss the catalyst control panel....the 1 month official drivers updates...
wake up ATI...you miss a "fanATIc" fan...

Ehm .. exactly *WHY* would you buy a card that has the same performance as the one you allready have now?
If you went for a GT or Ultra .. that would be an upgrade.. but a 6800NU?

You son, have been watching TOO much Doom3 benchmarks..

Put the pipe down buddy  same performance as 9800 pro my ass.

No, I don't want to start another benchmark war but if you were allready an "enthusiast" with a 9800Pro, you're seriously take a step down if you chose a 6800NU, unlike the 6800GT or X800Pro, it is *NOT* twice as fast as your current card.

And again besides Doom3 and 3dmark03 you'll be hard pressed to find any real performance difference between the 9800 and 6800 to warrant spending another 250 bucks or so.

just look at farcry, HL2, and Doom3 benchs...
the 6800NU have a good advantage over the 9800 pro 128mb...and almost all 6800NU have a good OC range...
...
anyway...i hope ati release a card like the 6800NU...so i can sell this 6800 and come back to ati...
:(

Well, as far as I know (xbitlabs, fastest videocard of the summer 2004) the 9800Pro is still a good performer over the 6800NU, especially when you turn on AA/AF you can see that it's hampered memory bus is really slowing down performance..., if a 6800NU is 10% faster in FarCry, the 9800Pro is 10% faster than the 6800NU in Painkiller.. It's only at low resolution that the 6800NU can keep up with the 9800Pro.

In my opinion you spend a lot of money on a video card that put you from "high end" to "mid range".. not something I like to pay for...

And if you think that this will change with games like Stalker, you will be surprised that the 6800NU is only 7fps faster at 1600x1200.. at a 80fps rate that's about 30 dollars per fps

Here's the link

Again, if you really desperately wanted a good next-gen videocard, you would've gotten a GT or Pro, if you say you don't have the money, you've made a mistake by settleing for inferior hardware..

Is the X600 4-pipes or 8? I'm not sure but if not i dont see why they couldnt take defective XT GPU's that wont make the grade for the X800 pro's 12pipes and re-package them as high clocked 8-pipe cards. Provding better than 9800pro performance and coming in at $150/£100 or so. Now that would be a good buy. Especially if they left the rest of the GPU alone so it kept all its shader power. :)

X700? 400/750? :D

the X600 is out of this equation, since it's a slightly modified 9600XT which matches the x800 feature set and performs PCI-E, not AGP...

Are you crazy, the 6800 NU trounces even the 9800XT in many benches. Here is a link to XBitlabs sister site's benchmarks.
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/nv40-5.html

Conclusions
"First of all I want to note that strangely enough with its 12 pipelines and the core clock at 325 MHz (3900 billion texels/sec) GeForce 6800 is quite a balanced video card with CPU bus bandwidth implemented via memory at 350 (700) MHz. Considering that the fill rate of RADEON 9800 XT is 3300 billion texels/sec, plus its combination with 730 MHz memory clock and decent performance gain over 9800 XT (up to 50-60%), the effectiveness of GeForce 6800 speaks for itself. Every single MHz of this chip is much more effective despite the practically identical CPU bus bandwidth in 9800 XT."

i don't have the time to copy and paste all benchmarks that the 6800NU have wow the 9800 pro...but here are a few links...
in almost all new games with shaders the 6800NU is ahead...

i have read a lot of reviews before buying this card...

Whats funny is Deker says it all. Hell, he even has a 9800pro in his sig and says that the 6800NU is better!! The 6800NU definitly has a step up on the 9800pro, by about 5-10fps. But if your gaming at high rez, 5-10fps makes a HUGE difference. However, not all people can justify the extra cost of around $60 over the 9800pro. If ATI does come out with a rehash of the cards, I would definitly grab one for $199 or $250

After some number of years (started with an 8500) I got a 6800GT. I finally have a card with real Linux support. I didn't care about performance so much as I cared about having a card that didn't suck complete ass in Linux. Anyway thats my story.

Don't worry about the fanATIcs. You made a good choice with a solid card.

Lol.. it's hard to have a conversation with you idiots.
My point is that, if you allready have a 9800Pro, spending 230 bucks on a 6800NU is *NOT* worth it.

You're a bit blind too, he is the guy that ordered the 6800NU and is waiting for it.. a bit stupid for him to say he just wasted money on that card...

The point is the "trouncing" you're talking about does not justify the hundreds of dollars he's spending..
If he would've bought at GT or Ultra, yes that's an upgrade, but going to an NU.. no that's not an upgrade...

This is not a conversation..

The point I'm trying to make is that it is not really wise to spend 200+ dollars on a video card that is only marginally faster than the one you're currently having..

And please don't bring all that doom3 crap up again and look at a wide set of benchmarks, waiting a few months (and with few I mean one or two) will reap you much more rewards for your hard earned money..
The way it is now, you're going from high end to mid-range .. and that can never be the idea behind spending 5 to 600 bucks in two years..

im sorry but buying a 6800 NU over a 9800 PRO has to be the dumbest thing in the world. That is like buying a 9700 after having a 9500 PRO soft modded to a 9700. If you are spending $200+ atleast save a few more weeks and get a 6800 GT for crying out loud.

Finally, someone who brings sense in this conversation..
