Remember the wonder driver from Nvidia that showed massive performance increases on the DX11 API? Well we have some more information on that front. Nvidia has revealed in its GTC conference that it will be releasing said driver sometime in April and its nomenclature will be “337.xx”.

if I can't play all games in 4k with my 780, then it's not very wondrous to me. :bleh:

I hope these are legit increases, and not just the usual driver pages that say 50% increase on Battlefield, and to me it's exactly the same.

More performance can't hurt. It is not like we were starved for performance with nVidia cards. Am excited about this. Wish there is also a Titanfall SLi profile so I can play it at 144 fps without hitching.

I just love the graphs where it looks like a massive increase in performance but in reality if you read the graph its an extra 2 or 3 FPS, well within the margin of error....

The only graph where this is the case is Thief. All the other graphs show much larger improvements :hmm:

Maybe.

I only skimmed the article but it doesn't say HOW it was tested; what hardware, what settings or anything else.

It is highly possible that they have gone in, made the game run on a small number of threads and then burnt a shed load of time on other cores to push this work off the gaming thread - does it help frame rates and score headlines? Sure. Does it solve the problem which is a fundamental issue with the way the DX runtime is structured? No.

More importantly until it has WIDE testing we don't know how much of this are game specific hacks/optimisations to make things look better. It could be window dressing for a few big games which means that unless your game is blessed by NVs Driver Team it won't see these gains.

While interesting for me there are too many unknowns right now to say what they are doing and how good it is - show me the raw data on low end systems and then we'll talk, but if they are burning cycles on a high end one to put Mantle in the shade then No Deal.

Personally desire this to be a DirectX 11 advancement for many and not optimizations for just game specific Mantle titles.

This was nice to read:

NVIDIA claims that these fixes are not game specific and will improve performance and efficiency for a lot of GeForce users.

I hope they fix surround issues.

My guess is that they won't.....

Honestly about that andino, I wouldn't hold your breath. Tbh I don't think nv cares much about surround other than to place a check mark on a feature box. Surround was in better shape driver wise a couple years and has been in steady decline since.(Im basing my opinions on a 680sli setup btw)

I agree. nVidia doesn't care about surround, and until it becomes more prominent in gaming, they will continue to not care. It's pretty unfortunate, but I don't see that changing.

 @ Wonder Driver. Whens the last time that word could be used to identify anything related to either nvidia or amd except maybe the price of their hardware?
