Hi, here are my Win2K scores...

Runs like a charm.

How did you get 5000+ marks? In relative terms between me and mbn, I thought I was alright. But you're way on up there. Did you do any tweaks and stuff? Did you oc your Radeon? How about BIOS tweaks? How did you get 5175?

BTW, I see a huge difference in CPU speed and you even have that much more of a difference with mbn's 1 gig. How is that possible?

My system is tweaked a little,

I have a p3 coppermine running at 1.75v and 133fsb to give 866 Mhz.
I use manual memory timings in the bios and have given myself the max stable memory performance and am running with all AGP features at 4x

I used the memory only tweak from Powerstrip to give the radeon 200x200 Mhz
The fill rate jumps right up when you do this - the overclocking of the radeon itself gave me an extra 1000 3dMarks !
Also, all unecessary devices are disabled and no unecessary process left running.

At the end of the day - all the extra tweaking does make a big difference - about 25-30%

PS - in Quake3 on fastest mode im getting 160FPS !

Im going to try some 32bit 3dmarks and will post them soon.

WaterPlanet -
The cpu speed I guess is the T&L engine on the Radeon - not the Main CPU - or maybe some combination of both - so since mine runs at 200Mhz, that could explain why I got such high CPU scores

Also - my Bios memory timings are tweaked to hell !

The best thing tho is i NEVER get freezez or lockups or any artifacts - just lucky I guess

people test it because its one of the widely used benchmarks on the playground right now. its not the best out there, but its been around for a long time and its a standard. I think Quake3 is a better benchmark, but no one wants to give up their nvidia biased 3dmark! :)

I dont have it installed, but seeing everyones scores, I want to see what I can pull...

Its not 3dmark2000 ist W2k. Ati told me that they could not access the AGP-BUS like in W98. This will be fixed, but it will take some time.... :-(

I have done some benchmarking for Q3 and my results have come up to be...weird...I always thought that Win98SE was the gaming OS and Win2K is the working OS. But...after running demo001 @ 1024X768 with max'ed out settings:
Win98SE: 48.x fps
Win2K: 65.x fps

Can anyone give an input as to why Win2K would give me the higher frame rate? In terms of the things that are loaded in the taskbar, they are the same things that are loaded up...Firewall, MS Mouse Icon, Volume Control, SB Audio HQ icon, and that's it.

So, if I were to oc my Radeon, I would get that huge performance difference and get 5000+ 3D marks for 3DMark? Even though you do have a P3 866E, the difference in our scores is around 2000 points. I just want to know where I can make up some of those 2000 points w/out oc'ing my video card. I really do intend to keep this card for at least 4 years down the road, if not more. Mind you, I still have my ATI ProTurbo PC2TV 4megger. That's been with me for 4 or 5 years. I can still use the ProTurbo and works beautifully. :)

In Q3 - I reckon you must have your opengl settings from your drivers set to High quality. Try adjusting those as Im getting over 80fps in winME at 1024x768x32.
My q3 scores in winme and win2k aver very similar - as are my 3dmark scores now.

Yes, the overclocking definately helps - look specifically at my T&L scores - this is a HUGE difference from yours - a magnitude of 4 !
The other factors have to be related to your bios memory settings or maybe processes that win2k is running - try shutting these down then benchmarking - (Open Task manager and close all memory hogging process - you may have to stop the services themselves by using COmputer management tool from admin tools)
Win2k uses lots of unecessary processes specially the "Server service"

:-)

Q3 1024x768x32, all settings maxed
demo001:
under WinME - 88fps
under Win2k - 78fps

under WinME, the Anistropic (sp?) setting gets a 10-15% hit. Under Win2K, only 0-5%.

hrm...I don't have a direct link to my score, but I have yet to receive my radeon (should come in later this week). However, my cpu score seems quite low. It's just under 200, and it seems like everything here is beating it. I have a t-bird 800, and a duron 700 posted a higher score. Any ideas on why? Thanks

PTX

Edit: I have a voodoo3 3000 currently.

Yeah, I'm on win2k also, and my T-bird 800 weighs in at 193...which seems really really low. *sigh* Anyone know if this is a bug or anything?

I think I know whats going wrong with all you lots scores !

When 3dmark executes, open task manager

1) FIND ALL unused processes and stop them (right click the process and end process)

2) find the 3dmark.exe executable process (cant remember exactly what its called) and right click, then click set priority and then click on "Real Time" - or "Highest"

that will boost performance quite significantly for the benchmark

Natively windows2000 like NT assigns a middle priority of cpu usage to a standard process and keeps realtime (the top priority) for the Kernel only. This means it will only ever get 60-70% of the cpus full attention, even tho task manager shows 100% for that given process.
Try it
