3D Rage LT Pro 2Mb Vs Windows XP

Hello.

I have an old laptop : Ascentia VL Series with a 3D Rage LT Pro equipped with 2Mb ram.

Under windows 98 only drivers older than 24.99 ( including 24.99 ) work.

Under Windows XP no driver work. I always get the error : "the device cannot initialize". The only driver I can use is the default one from Windows XP ... The problem is that this default driver does not support Direct3D features :(

Can someone help me ?
Thanks.

When you installed WindowsXP it should have installed a driver automatically for it from Microsoft, did that not work? There is nothing wrong with the Microsoft driver if that works for you, especially on that older card.

Hello.

Thanks for your fast reply. I will then be more precise ;)

The default Windows XP Drivers works but don't support Direct3D. When I launch DXDIAG I only get DIRECTDRAW hardware support ( when I was on Win98 with 24.99 drivers, I get DIRECTDRAW and DIRECT3D hardware acceleration ).

The ATI drivers I've found over the net ( tried several build ), Install but produce an error. When restarting windows, XP simply tell ( in the peripheral properties ) : Device can't initialize ... it will then use VGASAFE.DLL for default 640x480 display.

I try to find drivers for this 3D Rage LT-G 2Mb video card but never find any WindowsXP compatible ones.
I opened the laptop computer ( it's an Ascentia VL Series ) and get all these informations from the ATI 3D chipset :
3D Rage LT
215LT1CA31
L747104
P22A80805
( I tried the AST website but there are no Windows XP drivers for ATI chipset )

NOTE : I've even tried http://www.geocities.com/ziyadhosein/ but nothing work. Even drivers modifying ...

Cordially,
Freddix

When I try to jump to your first link, I get :

If you just want to restart your session and discard any possible unsaved data from the previous screen, click below.

The drivers you've given aren't compatible with the onboard video card :(

I've found something that may be interesting... the video card use the same IRQ than the PCMCIA slot where my DC90 card is .... it's maybe the origin of my problem ?

I can't find any program that allow me to change the IRQ of the video card ( it can't be modified in the device manager ) and for the PCMCIA, it's the same, IRQ can't be modified. ( I'm under Windows XP )
I have TweakBios that run only with Windows 98SE

Well there is an easy way to answer this question... remove all PC cards and in the device manager DISABLE the PCMCIA slots. Then reboot and see if you can get the video driver working.
