AMD gaming going to Pax west

I don't look for it


but it would be hilarious if they dropped another 4870 like card out of the blue and NV had to drop prices again :lol:
 
they pull out a vega 20 gaming on TSMC's 7nm and they might be able to have a card close to a 1080 ti + or - 10%
with better power numbers than vega 64
 
Imagine releasing a card and only matching performance of a card that’s been on the market for over 20months ..

if it is the same or faster and cheaper ( 7nm ) than a rtx 2080 non ti ( that is the same as the 1080 ti ) it would sell

say it comes in somewhere midway between a 2080 and a 2080 ti for 699 it would be just like the 4870 was




and it would not be as bad as vega 64 was

Vega is too pricey to build for consumers. Why scrape by with thin gaming GPU margins when you can sell that card for 5x as much with Radeon Instinct branding?

AMD needs to get performance to match a 2080 with OC headroom. That would be great.
 
Its all about pricing. Last gen high end becomes this gens mid or high mid range. Sell a Vega 20 16gb that beats a 1080ti or 2080 for 600$ and a slightly cut down 8gb ver for 400$ would make it a steal.
 
Well at least we'll know what that 7nm Vega will have once the pro cards come out... Id say its 99% likely they will use the same chip.
 
some here would not buy a AMD card even if it was cheaper and faster they just want to be able to buy cheaper NV cards .

if a Vaga 7nm is faster than my 1080 ti strix and reasonable price I'll buy one or two
while it would be nice it does not have to beat a 2080 ti or need RT
 
What is reasonable price though? If Vega 7nm barely matches a stock 1080TI and/or slightly edges it out, that performance could be made up just by OCing the 1080TI. AMD hasn’t left much (or any) OC headroom in a long time.

Anyway, you could just grab a 1080TI for cheap at that point. It’s really difficult to justify AMDs flagship that is a generation ahead barely beating NVs precious gen flagship. I want AMD to succeed but they don’t make it easy to support them with purchases sometimes. I haven’t seen an AMD card worth buying since the HD5870, and that was short lived until the GTX680 came out and wiped the floor with it.

Im hoping the switch back to tsmc will help with the oc headroom, glofo never inspired confidence in that regard.

Imo the last good amd card was 290/x. If you recall it forced nvidia to drop prices on the 780, release the ti and outperformed the ti in alot of hires and mgpu scenarios(when sli/cfx was useful) Since the then the high end has been all nvidia

I said beats my 1080 ti strix that would put it 15% faster than a 2080 or stock 1080 ti

as for price I think they could get it cheaper than the 799 of a 2080 FE

but beat the 2080 ti no it is still vega and a more pro gpu than gaming
but 7nm and tsmc should get it faster than a 1080 ti or 2080 non ti
and be 16gb

honestly 16gig is a waste, much prefer a more affordable model with 8 and get rid of the double precision crap. Amds one size fits all approach to gpus isnt working

it won't have less than a 1080 ti .

and 8gb is a little short for 4k today or will be soon and we may start getting more 8k monitors by the time this is out
