Ours decided to die this morning. Of course the games that were opened this morning were all discs not digital codes

Amazon has the drive for $45, repair shops giving online quotes of $129. I'm pretty ham-fisted when it comes to soldering, etc....anybody done one of these?

I've replaced drives for the original xbox, and the xbox360. There was never any soldering required for those. Why do you think you'd need to solder the drive for the xbone?

by way of a late follow-up, (and in case anyone else ever has same problem)

On a lark, I turned it off, unplugged it, let it sit, plugged it back in the next day, fired it up and works great.

Of course it may die tomorrow but it now has a companion so it may not get turned on again for a month or so. :hmm:

As strange as that is when my PS3 optical drive stopped working I took it in to get a new drive installed the guy told me I could put in a new drive and make some money off you or you could go home and do a factory reset on the unit and it will work fine and if it does not bring it in then I will fix it. He was right. Saved me some cash. The bummer was that dude went out of business just a year later. :(
