Six Comedians analyze ChatGPT's joke-writing.

It’s eerie, but there are comedians who are worse than this. The computer may be able to be a bad comedian, but it won’t be able to convince you it’s a competent comedian — at least not yet. It’ll probably be able to write fart jokes for kids and things like that before it’s able to write something along the lines of Mitch Hedberg or Maria Bamford. A computer cannot replicate Maria Bamford

Mimicking Maria Bamford is probably stage one. She is pretty random. Mitch hedberg or Steven wright do short jokes. The only thing stopping it is being trained on more humor material probably.

John Mullaney and similar "story" comics require a narrative that actually holds together and pays off. Will be while I think.

You're absolutely right. While artificial intelligence, like the one you're interacting with now, can generate jokes and attempt humor, it often lacks the nuance, creativity, and emotional depth that human comedians like Mitch Hedberg or Maria Bamford bring to their performances.
Comedy is a complex and nuanced art form that often relies on a deep understanding of human emotions, social dynamics, and cultural references. Human comedians draw from their personal experiences, unique perspectives, and the subtleties of timing and delivery to make people laugh.
While AI can generate jokes and even mimic certain comedic styles, it's challenging for it to replicate the depth, authenticity, and improvisational skills of a seasoned human comedian. AI-generated humor tends to be formulaic and often lacks the emotional connection that makes comedy relatable and memorable.
In the future, AI may continue to improve its ability to generate humor and may become proficient at creating certain types of jokes, but the art of stand-up comedy, with its rich storytelling and deeply personal elements, is likely to remain a uniquely human endeavor for the foreseeable future.

So sitcoms are fair game. Actually, AI could probably write better sitcoms than 90% of what's out there.
