CMC working in Win7 RC

Well my CMC still fails with the ClCapSvc Module has stopped working bug in Windows Vista Ultimate SP3 64bit.

However, the good news is that it is working in Windows 7 RC 64 bit.

Why do I insist on using CMC, you ask?

Because I need the lowest video lag possible to be able to easily operate my DirecTV DVR.

Both Windows Media Center 2008 and Snapstream 4.9.2 start off with a 1 second or so delay and ramp up to a couple to several seconds delay. This means that using the on screen guide with my DirecTV DVR is terrible for navigation. While in CMC I can move the cursor on my DVR easily, without noticable delay.

I also just picked up a Happauge Win-TV-HVR 1850. This latest Dual Tuner supports QAM Tuning in Windows Media Center 2008. Unlike the HVR 1800 which does not. And it comes with a Vista Media Center remote, IR receiver and IR Blaster. It has a bit of a plastic toy feeling, but it works.

The question is now, Do I limp along with the Theater 650 PCie card some more and Dual Boot XP Pro 64 bit SP2, or Windows 7 RC 64bit, either of which run CMC without problems? Or Switch over to the Happauge?

I'm not certain yet - gotta love the 2 week free test trials... I mean satisfaction Guarantees they have at Fry's and some other Big computer stores.

So I've installed the Happauge 1850 and I think its a viable alternative to the ATI 650, with one exception, the Video Time Shift encoding lag.
It is horrible, I'm unable to use the on screen guide efficently. Having to count my cursor clicks, and hope I don't accidently delete something from my Library on my DVR when making edits really sucks. Looks Like I'm stuck using Windows 7 RC when I want to watch TV with my ATI 650 PCIe card.

Perhaps when the Theater 750 is released the included software will allow the 650 cards access and we can all get ourselves an update by purchasing a Theater 750 to test.

With all due respect, I find your post a little hard to follow:

There is no such thing as “Media Center 2008”. There is the original release of “Media Center Edition” followed by “Media Center Edition 2004”. “Media Center Edition 2005” was the last iteration of the specialized XP version of “Media Center” before it became a feature of specific versions of Vista (Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate). There was also an OEM only / Vista only “2008 TV Feature Pack” (AKA Fiji) that updated the build number and diverged the feature set somewhat.

I’ve looked for reference to a Hauppauge “WinTV-HVR 1850” but have found nothing on their webpage:

The DirecTV DVR seems a bit odd too but if you are really married to it I guess you have to do what is necessary to get by with it.

If it were me I would look into migrating my DVR recordings over to my main dedicated entertainment system (Vista Home Premium with “Media Center”) or Windows Home Server and then drop down to a likely less expensive HD capable box. From there one could use a “Hauppauge HD PVR” for general recordings (both HD and SD) with BeyondTV, SageTV, GB-PVR, Media Portal and s on. DVBLink for Hauppauge HD PVR also makes it possible to use the unit in Vista Media Center with 2008 TV Feature Pack and H.264 hack. I cannot discuss unreleased Microsoft OSes however.

If for some reason you really want to stick with the DirecTV DVR then maybe the DIRECTV2PC app can address some if not all of your interface issues.
Also perhaps there is a mobile application that will allow you to interface with your DirecTV DVR. I know Directv has an app for the iPone / iPod Touch which could help supplement interfacing.

Sorry if I’m going off on a tangent but as I said your post was a little hard for me to follow. I’m also not sure why you would care about QAM if you’re on Directv.

I'm in with Agustus here. I'm confused a bit myself... More about first, the HVR 1800 Does Clear QAM (like most "dual non-hybrid tuner cards) on ONE input....just like the TV Wonder HD 650.... ==>Either with Work around software/remapping, or after installing MS's Tv Media Pack 2008; or using Windows 7.

Now you might be referring to the 2250; which is a (Dual-Hybrid Tuner) Two tuners on one card and both can do either ATSC/Clear QAM, or both can do NTSC, or one of each simultaneiously. (I thought for the price though, (especially when the TV wonders were $50 for a few months at BBuy) that you come ahead by two tuners if you use two HD650's in the same system and it was (at that time $10 cheaper) vs a HVR 2250.

Second, besides the 1800 having QAM; I'm confused as to how that factors into using it with Direct TV, unless you also have a basic cable subscription or something on the side...

Yes I have Basic Cable with QAM and DirecTV.
DirecTV requires the use of a set top box, so in using the Guide or any menu activites, have little or no lag is most helpful in navigation.

The origional release of the Happauge 1800 did not recognize QAM in Media Center TV Pack 2008. When I got the Happauge 1850, on the box, it states full QAM support in Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008.

My main issue here is that No one care about the dreaded CLCAPSVC bug at Microsoft, ATI/AMD nor Cyberlink.

The funny thing about this is that a Windows Vista required update broke CLCAPSVC module, which makes your Tuner not function with the Cyberlink software. However, on a Fully updated Windows 7 RC installation the CLCAPSVC module is not broken by Windows and CMC runs just fine.

Which tend to show that Microsoft Vista Breaks the Driver and Windows 7 Doesn't break the driver.

I'm more on a rant here because My Wifes Laptop just started having the same CLCAPSVC module has stopped working failure now, as she just updated her HP laptop that has a built in QAM tuner which no longer works in the included HP/Cyberlink applications. And all she did was run Windows Update.

If you search the net for CLCAPSVC you don't find anything helpful, as of yet, but I am hoping, as my posts end up in more and more search engines, maybe more people, and perhaps one with a cure, find their way to this forum.

Yeah, I just couldn't take CMC anymore. It barely discovered half of the QAM channels available and the update it took up a chunk of memory starting almost nearly daily on my system yet it seemed to take forever to download....That I simply moved over completely to Vista Media Center.

I believe you are not correct about the HVR 1800. For about 1 1/2 maybe longer, Hauppauge (the last of the three) along with Silicon Dust (HD Homerun) & Avermedia have had QAM ability via seperate programs that remapped / tricked Vista Media Center into thinking it was dealing with an ATSC over the air signal since it couldn't natively do anything with QAM. The HVR-1800 could use the work around software back then (and can continue to if one doesn't want to install the TV Pack - switch to .wtv files etc.) -OR- when Fiji - Vista TV Media Pack 2008 hit the P2P & download sites for those with existing systems, it made those remapping work arounds un-necessary for those that installed it and the HVR-1800 worked back then you just need to do a little work around. It's posted online since Late August 2008 as Fiji was hitting mainstream P2P.

As to your REAL issue, hope you get some ideas from others. It reminds me of when ATI switched from WDM-SP to WDM-NSP and lag crept in.
