Colour settings going back to default?

Hi there just got myself a ATI 9800 XT which is proper mint well done but there is a slight problem with it which is a tad annoying.

I have adjusted the brightness settings in the advanced settings in display properties so that i can see things clearly ingame. However if I play a game exit to desktop and then try to play another game the gamma settings return to normal. I have heard that this is a common problem and I would be very grateful if you could let me know where the fix is at...

I myself have never had to adjust the gamma settings etc. But I would try the in game gamma setting if there is one and it might hold for that game the next time you want to play.
