Console Gaming Official Screenshots Thread

Stranger in a Strange LAN
There was a time when a thread like this wasn't necessary, but now that we can take screenshots with our consoles, it makes sense to create a place to put them.

Keep the chat down to next to nothing. And please try to not quote with the tags.

This thread is for console screenshots only, except to compare to the PC version of any particular games.

No deep linking images, all images must be re-hosted. Deep linking is a form of bandwidth theft and can lead to problems as well when the owner decides to mess with people stealing bandwidth.

The PC screenshots thread is here.

Nice, I haven't gotten around to playing Halo Reach yet, but I did read the Fall of Reach book way back when Halo 1 first came out. It was actually decently written. John wasn't the fastest, smartest or strongest, but he was the luckiest and in the end that is what mattered the most.

Most capture cards require you to use component cables and game at 720p unfortunately when pairing with a console :(.

like very many games surpass True 720p anyways :hmm:
most all of them are just upscaled, which really doesn't visually do anything for the graphics, it just fits the image onto the screen.

Just do what i do, use a hardware HDMI ripper and Blackmagic HDMI card :p
However, since most people convert the images to Jpeg and downsize them, its still just as pointless.
With the one true 1080p game i have, its impossible to tell the difference between 720p after its been jpeg'ed and downsized. maybe a tad less aliasing..maybe but of course i'm no photographer either.
Most of my images that i keep, i use them as wallpaper so i keep them .BMP

you can also upsample your monitor so your capture card images are then downcoverted to naitive resolution and from what i can tell, imo it certainly seems to help with aliasing...but such alterations is kinda cheating imo if your sharing them, might as well photochop them to death like the publishers do.

Can you tell me more about this capture method?

Can you tell me more about this capture method?

well a card like Black Magic which has HDMI in and out will not work directly connected to PS3 unless you use their adapters which convert it to analogue which makes it 1080i/720p.

they do that so you can't rip BR movies mostly i think. So if you want full 1080p then you can aquire an HDMI ripper which is a device that will decode it...ones like the HD Fury will convert it to analogue VGA but in full 1080p in which case you need to reconvert to HDMI via another adapter or use a capture card with vga IN and skip the adapter.

finally, you can then connect it to your Black magic card and use full 1080p

so to summarize. PS3 hdmi output connects to HDMI input on the "Ripper" which then goes to your card OR if "ripper" only has VGA out and your card does not have VGA IN, then it must be connected to a VGA to HDMI adapter (read expensive) then out to your Black Magic capture card's HDMI input

Hopefully that wasnt too confusing and i'm sure there are many other methods but yeah its expensive and like i said before, its really unecesary.
All you really need is a $200 Hauppauge DVI capture device and use component ....cause by the time you downsize and convert to jpg, they look pretty much the same IMO. maybe less jaggies though.

Use Fraps to snap the pics and you end up with pics like this:

this forum is sorta quite so to spice it up a little I was wondering if anyone had any requests for console screens? If I have the game I'll take a few and post them.

thats cause most all console shot threads die fairly quick. i gave it 6 months tops originally and stand by that time frame. still on page 1 i see...yup, i'll be correct as usual:lol:
but after the hissy fits i got in the only survivable screenshot thread before this thread was officially made,:nag: i certainly don't care to support it really, i found other forums that don't care if the shot is pc or console specific.

It's stickied, so it will be here anytime anyone wants to post shots. If anyone wants to see or post console shots, do it in here, or if anyone wants to post or see PC shots, then do it in the PC section.

I don't think it is really worth whining about. :nope:

Probably only due to the issue of it being more difficult to post them. Usually the screens I see on other sites are from some type of camera that produces marginal quality shots. Anyhoo, I'll do my best to keep this forum interesting :D.

edit - reminds self to keep the chatter to a minimum :)

Yeah, like people followed that rule in the PC screenshots forum either.
