Diablo 4 - We all have PCs

I hope the launch for this one goes smoother than the last one did.

And if they screw it up like they did 3 on release, I'ma be pissed!

Looks like Diablo 3.5 from the gameplay trailer TBH. Same stupid engine, different (almost) decade.

Is it the same engine though? Looks similar, but I haven't seen anything saying it is.

EDIT: Ran across something that stated it will be using a new, but shared graphics engine. Meaning they will be using the D4 engine for other blizzard games in the future (what, like maybe one more game they might make in the next 20 years?).

I like that it seems darker from the start. I hope that the weapon / skill setup is more like d1/d2 than d3. How many classes in the game? If there's no paladin / knight then they can **** off.

5, but not sure exactly which. Only Barbarian and Wizard/sorceress (again) are known.

D4 is no where near finished apparently, and no it still won't have an offline mode.

Diablo 4 will not have an offline mode, and the game is 'not coming anytime soon'

The 'shared open world' will require an internet connection, and it sounds like Diablo 4 is still a good ways off.

Diablo 4 will not have an offline mode and will require an internet connection to play, Blizzard said during an interview at BlizzCon today.

We asked lead designer Joe Shely if it was possible to play Diablo 4 offline. "There's a large, seamless, connected, and shared space in the world, going down into dungeons, being able to group with your friends, trading and PvP. We feel that the best way to experience that is in a world that is online," Shely responded.

The "shared open world" essentially gives Diablo 4 the form of an MMO, so it's not surprising that it will require an always-on internet connection in order to populate the world with other players. You'll be able to play solo, but not offline.

Detailed during the Diablo 4 Revealed panel, Diablo 4 will feature world events, towns that act as social hubs, PvP zones, and a persistently populated open world. The decision makes sense for a more social Diablo 4, and has become the norm in the years since Diablo 3's release, which was one of the first games to adopt the then-controversial always-online approach.

As one ponders an always-on Diablo, one can't help but remember the legendarily bad connection issues Diablo 3 experienced when it debuted in March 2012. Even so many years later, the specter of "Error 37" hangs over the series: Diablo 3 was inaccessible to some players for days following launch, after which Blizzard implemented a login queue system. Another much-criticized element of Diablo 3, the real money auction house, closed in 2014 and does not yet show signs of being revived for the sequel.

Sounds like they are intending it to be more like an MMO.

I'm getting the impression that blizzard wasn't really ready to announce D4 yet, but their hand was forced due to the terrible PR blunders lately. Couple that with Riot games essentially declaring war on them, and they had no choice or risk appearing irrelevant.

Basically an MMO? I'm no longer interested. Just wanted D1 or D2 updated for the modern age. That's obviously too much to ask. Well at least now I don't have to worry about the game anymore. Might go play Grim Dawn and cry myself to sleep.

This is the art style they should have gone with for D3. Yes there is still a minor hint of the "WoW-ification" from the engine, but it's minimal - from what we've seen so far this is exactly the kind of look that fans of the series wanted.

This game is going to be very successful. D2 is still seen as one of the greatest games of all time, and gently pulling the nostalgia strings in a true sequel is a guaranteed hit.

From the leaked Barb video the skill system still seems to be the simplified D3-type, I thought they would have riffed PoE a bit. That said it's probably still a work in progress so all we can do now is wait.

MMO? I'm no longer interested.
^Don't let the mmo term bother you, it's meaning has changed to mean any online game where players can optionally group up. PoE (path of exile) has been described as an 'mmo' in some media/press too.

In 13 days we get the PoE 4.0.0 announcement. This is a great time for players who like top down hack and slash action rpgs.
