Therefore, in order to qualify for the free upgrade, players must shell out $99.99 USD/£89.99 for the Ultimate Edition of the game rather than $59.99 USD/£59.99 for the Standard Edition. This also means that if someone purchases FIFA 22's Standard Edition on PS4 and later upgrades to PS5, they would then need to purchase the PS5 version of the game to play.

Now I'm not a SPORTS gamer. But I can see EA locking graphics options behind a pay wall going forward. Oh you want Antialiasing you need to buy this version. Oh you want RayTraycing you need to buy this version.

That kinda makes sense... if you buy it for PS4, you have to pay to unlock it for PS5 is how I'm understanding this right?

Prior though if you bought the game and not just FIFA or EA if the title was re-released or released on next-gen consoles when it became available you got it for free. Not its pay more or you can still play it just not with the better grahpics. So they can still play FIFA 2022 on it but unless they get the Ultimate Edition you won't get the new features. Unless you pony up $99.99 instead of $59.99.

$59.99 - Version will work just not next gen features.

Like LOL WUT?

EA milking? Not surprised, however I'm under the impression that they couldn't just "turn the graphics down" for the PS4 version; there are major engine changes.

Either way, EA could have ate that. They're just being greedy.. and why shouldn't they? They have a complete monopoly.

I got the standard version of Fifa 21 last year in PS4 and when I changed to PS5 I just reinstalled the new version of the game.

This time, I will need to just buy the standard version of the game for PS5 directly?, right?

This affects only those not still on the PS5 wagon yet, I think it's a bad move from EA...
