Eliminating "~1"

Hi, I was just wondering if there was some way to get rid of the ~1 in file names. I just copied a bunch of files using DOS(Windows screwed up on me):( so now all my files are cut off and have ~1 after 6 characters so I can't tell what is what!! Anyone know how to get rid of it and restoring the files? (without renaming them manually of course)

I don't think there's any way at all now. When you copied in dos, it truncated the names and discarded the rest of the characters.

Hehe, a similar thing happened to me. My slave drive went squirelly and I thought I lost all my 450 mp3's, so I ran scandisk and it repaired them but renamed them all with that crazy DOS short file name crap.

Took hours to rename them all manually :(

I've seen freeware tools on the web to help rename MP3's quickly in such circumstances by using the info inside the song files. It should not be too difficult to find... so next time you'll save yourself from the pain ;)
