EVGA 1080ti replaced with a 2080

So I had a pump on one of my 1080ti hybrids go out and did an RMA with EVGA. By the way, the process was a dream. Told the guy what was going on and he did the whole RMA thing for me.

Anyway, I got the notification today that they automatically added the replacement to my account. I go over and look and the 1080ti hybrid is replaced a 2080 hybrid.

While that is a cool thing for them to do it kind of puts me in a spot. I totally believe that they didn't have anymore 1080i hybrids laying around and replaced it with a 2080. Which I normally wouldn't mind at all.

The problem is that I run SLI and I can't put a 1080ti and a 2080 in SLI together.

I was hopeful that I could at least run this setup until I could land a 3080 or in the worse/best case scenario until the 3080ti came out.

Now I'm kind of boned. I sent an e-mail to EVGA explaining the situation and asked if they had any ideas. My guess is that that was the best that they can do. And while I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, the upgrade to the 2080 kind of screwed me. I play the hell out of Witcher and Skyrim with SLI. Now I'm basically boned until supply of the 3080's get caught up.

I know I shouldn't be pissed here because I got a better card out of the deal but I kind of am because it totally screws up what I had.

The 2080 should be able to run both those games at 100+ FPS, no?

I would think so. Edit: You should be fine with a single card on that monitor. Enjoy the upgrade, and sell the other working 1080Ti to help pay for the 3080 if you can score one.

That'll be the task...

Good news. EVGA is going to replace the good 1080ti hybrid with a 2080 hybrid.

Now I have to find a nvlink to get SLI back.

Man those 3 slot Nvlinks are a bitch to find.

That's because SLI is dead and almost nothing in the DX12/Vulkan era makes use of SLI. So the links became rare because almost no one built SLI setups :(

Got the 2080 in. Have to wait until they receive the broken 1080ti and then I'll start another cross ship RMA.

:D

Liking the 2080 so far. It's about the same speed as my 1080ti but with raytracing. Maybe a little faster than the 1080ti. A lot more smoother.

I'm going to try to find an nvlink and run sli until I land a 3080, 3090, or wait until the 3080ti's come out in a month...

Cranked the OC on the 2080 up.

I think I'll be fine waiting for the 3080ti on this.

:)

They're doing that ... for free?

That's unreal.

I've seen them do this quite a bit, their is actually a SLi option on the RMA forum you are supposed to select for this very reason. Usually you just get upgraded to the next model (if he had 1070 sli, instead of a 2070, he would of received a 2080).

But I'm assuming 2080 TI RMA stock is low.

EVGA is probably sitting on a **** ton of 2080s anyways from the step up program.

I think that this is what went on.

I'm totally cool with the 2080 Hybrids though.

I read this thread the other day but didn't comment - It's amazing they will do that for an SLI customer.
