EVGA will no longer make video cards

I can't say I'm surprised. Nvidia wants companies to help with the launch loads but they want to be the premier GPU card dealer at the same time. EVGA established itself as a top tier card that directly went head to head at Nvidia's price points. Nvidia tried selling their FE cards at a premium and earlier than the competition with the 2000 series and then they out engineered everyone with the 3000 series FE coolers. EVGA were competitors more than partners and you could see why they would be annoyed with Nvidia. It's good that they diversified enough to make money in other areas and no longer need to spend the money on GPU designs but that's going to put many EVGA engineers out on the street which sucks.

Wish they would partner with AMD. I think the owner is just burned out of the graphic card biz though. Thanks Nvidia...

they make AMD 570x MB's will most likely make am5 motherboard

AMD video cards is not a stretch now that they are free of NV

the jacket just made a New Coke like bad move

What surprises me is, if one has trouble working with Nvidia, why not try to work with Amd and Intel?

I think that would be the smart thing to do. Maybe they will. AMD could use another supplier that brings innovative custom designs to the street. It's just not possible for a small AIB to compete with AMD or Nvidia directly and I don't think AMD will be a problem unless they start pouring money into their own designs and pushing manufacturing like Nvidia has been doing.

I think Nvidia realized that pushing prices up to Asus level was not going to be effective when they dipped their toe into the pool back with the 2000 series. Now they undercut everyone which sells very well but it hurts the AIB profit margins. Which is probably why EVGA is bowing out.

XFX, BFG and now EVGA

think i will pass on buying NV cards for a few years

i don't like the FE cards and if they keep this up thats all they will have

AMD also makes their own reference cards.

Based on the statements in the GN video it doesn't look very good for them ever producing video cards again.

The company is at a crossroads and could easily fail if the next steps aren't slam dunks.

Maybe they will after some reflection and rethinking. The Evga brand is a good one. It's a shame really, after a 22 + year relationship ending.

AMD's reference designs are very traditionally straight forward and limited in supply. I don't think EVGA would have a problem carving out a profit producing AMD cards but perhaps upper management at EVGA is worried that will change in the near future and would rather be done with GPU design. Who knows, but EVGA's power supplies are no longer made by super flower and the new digital era of PS may not be as kind to them as it was in the past. They could be in trouble.

They probably have no choice right now, it might be too late to switch to amd as they have no chance getting any cards allocated to them in time for the 7xxx launch.

nVida has been a known a PIA company to work with going back decades. This isn't the first board partner they have lost and I doubt it will be the last at they keep up this BS(just ask MS, BFG, XFX and countless software/game dev's on how hard they are to work with). I'm not surprised this happened given the already stressful situation in tech.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that in the future they end up making either Intel ARC or AMD Radeon cards. Intel is probably chomping at the bit for board partners.

Last year Scott Herkelman (Radeon GM and CVP) confirmed that AMD will be manufacturing reference RX6000 cards through early 2021. So at that point, it was quite clear that reference cards will become nonexistent on the market very soon. Meanwhile, board partners have reached out to the press, confirming that AMD has ceased to ship additional MBA (reference) cards to them.

After the first reports of AMD abandoning its reference design, AMD made a U-Turn and decided to manufacture reference cards indefinitely. Originally the reference cards were supposed to be a one-off release, which is a typical way of how AMD releases their graphics cards. The company then usually focuses on delivering GPUs directly to board partners. This time around though, the situation is different, mostly due to increased pricing on the custom designs. AMD reference design sold through the official webstore is practically the only way to buy these cards at the announced MSRP. However, right now chances of seeing those cards in stock in the said store are almost nil.

they only mady more reference cards was because of mining and covid
most of the past releases the reference cards sell out and are gone

Hella good point, they probably wouldn't be able to get with AMD until the next gen launch.

Jayz2cent talked more about the meeting in their podcast, looks like EVGA's CEO has some kind of weird almost undying loyalty towards nvidia.

Seems really coincidental this is happening right now considering the ethereum merge.

What you need to know about the ethereum 'merge'

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/15/business/nightcap-ethereum-merge-crypto/index.html

Mining is basically done thanks to its enormous electricity blueprint. Not really something you want occurring when the health of the planet is at risk. All the miners are trying to get rid of their stock and flooding the market with low-price, high-end gpu's. Nivida and their resellers basically admitted to being in bed with the mining community. Now Nvidia wants to focus on gaming again. Maybe EVGA wants to distance themselves from all this?

Intel could really use a partner with GPU experience like EVGA.
