File Player Crashes - Wrong Version Of RW?

Hello forum,

I have just installed Catalyst 6.7 and MMC 9.14 and the other required components and everything works fine (for the most part). I am using the X800 series AIW video card and am running Windows XP sp2.

However, the Information Center of the Catalyst Control Panel (Advanced Mode) shows that I have Remote Wonder Plus drivers version 2.00.36 installed when, in fact, I don't knowingly HAVE any Remote Wonder software anywhere on my computer. There is no entry for it in the "Add/Remove Programs" in Windows Control Panel. I even used Driver Cleaner Professional to wipe out any traces of Remote Wonder but it still shows up there.

ATI support says that in order for MMC to work correctly, you must have at least the 3.X version of Remote Wonder installed.

But, in fact, the File Player of MMC always crashes whenever I close it. It opens up fine and plays mpegs fine but crashes when I close it (GPF)

I can't help but think that the reason File Player crashes when I close it is maybe because of this 2.0X Remote Wonder driver that the Catalyst Control Center says I have installed that I can't get rid of.

I also noticed that whenever I DO install Remote Wonder version 3.X, this entry is added to the Information Center of the Catalyst Control Panel but it has the driver version listed wrong. It says I have version 2.00X installed instead. So at this point, the Information Center of the Catalyst Control Panel has two entries for Remote Wonder, both of them saying version 2.00X. I can indeed uninstall the last version if RW completely. But the first version I can't get rid of.

Do you think that the reason File Player always crashes when I close it is because I can't get rid of the first entry of Remote Wonder, version 2.00.36?

In other words, whenever I install Remote Wonder 3.X on my computer, the Information Center of the Catalyst Control Panel says I have two instances of Remote Wonder (version 2.00X each), one of which I can't even get rid of, and it shows the wrong version number for the 3.X Remote Wonder, showing 2.00X instead. Since the Information Center of the Catalyst Control Panel is reading the last install of Remote Wonder incorrectly, I really don't know what the true version number is of the first instance of Remote Wonder is either. If the first instance of RW is truely version 2.00X, that might be why File Player crashes when being closed.

Help appreciated,
Roy
