Flashing SSD firmware risky?

I have a Crucial SSD that is sometimes not being detected on boot up.

It has LOTS of games and mods on it.

I won't be crushed if it dies as I've backed up critical stuff but I sure will be very highly annoyed for weeks(months?) due to all the game reinstalls.

There is an update for it so hoping that could be a possible cause.

What is the risk of losing drive data when doing a SSD firmware update?

Shouldn't be any problem. I've done it with Samsung drives and never lost any data.

That said, there's always a small chance that the flashing could go wrong and brick the drive, but since you have backups I'd say go for it.
