Gateway Solo 9300 XP ATI Drivers

Help. I am having major problems with my Gateway Solo 9300 upgrading to XP Professional.
I recently installed a new HDD and decided to upgrade to XP Pro. Everything went smoothly with the XP install and I had no problems with the machine (Apart from a small problem with it taking 45 seconds to go into standby the second attempt).
Anyway I had been reading the posts regarding the ATI Rage video drivers so downloaded 5772.zip from Geocities.
I installed them and everything seemed to be fine. I had no error messages and XP seemed to be unaffected. I got all the advanced features of the ATI card and was quite pleased.
But now I installed WinDVD4 and started to watch movies. Everything is OK if I power on my 9300 and then run WinDVD once XP has loaded. But then if I went into Standby and came out again a second time, when I tried running WinDVD it would first freeze and then the computer would shut itself off and then restart again like the power had been turned off / on. When XP came up I got the error message:-
Computer restarted after an unexpected shutdown. MS windows detected a possible device failure.
The display driver for RAGE Mobility-P (English) seems to be responsible for the system instability.
The error report was:-
szAppName: Drivers.Display szAppVer: 10024C4D649300107B
szModName: ati2drab.dll szModVer: 5.1.2500.5772
Offset: 258706EA
I could run WinDVD again no problems but again after each resume from standby I get the same problems.
I first tried changing the ATI display drivers from Rage Mobility-P to Rage Mobility-M1 but the results were exactly the same (Probably due to the same ati2drab.dll file).
My drivers are as follows:-
Rage Mobility-M1 AGP 2x (English)
Bios 4.236
Date 2000/4/12
Ram 8.0M
Type SGRAM
Driver: ati2drab.dll
Release Ver: M6.12.39 BigZ
Ati2drab.dll file version 5.01.2500.5772

Problem is I rolled back my video driver back to the standard set of XP drivers:-
Atidrab.dll
Microsoft Driver Ver: 5.1.2001
File Version: 5.01.2195.5012
And I still get the same lockup & restart with WinDVD and a different error at XP startup:-
BCC Code: 100000ea BCP1: 81427770 BCP2: 815A00008
BCP3: 8176A170 BCP4:00000001 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP:0_0
Product: 256_1
I get this everytime I now restart XP.
I have tried with PowerDVD4 WinDVD basic and Platinum with same results each time.
Help me please. Has anyone had this problem and how do I resolve it. I am going to do another format and reload of XP tonight so will have a clean system again by tomorrow. I am now contemplating installing Widows2000 Pro and forgetting XP all together.
Has anyone experienced problems installing Win2000 on a Solo 9300. It seems like there are at least more Win2000 drivers available for the 9300.

I downloaded the driver you mentioned from :-

http://support.gateway.com/support/...&now=1&id=19094

Great, they work. Thanks a bunch. I tried going in / out of standby several times and running PowerDVD straight after it came out of standby and each time it played DVD's no problems. No more system shutdowns or error messages at startup.

Am I now able to install ATI Multimedia MMC7.2 as I would like to try the video in / out functions.

Also is there any possibility I can get the advanced set of display properties which I used to get before (To select TV and other advanced settings). If I click on Advanced now, I just get a basic set of settings and can only adjust things like hardware acceleration, enable write combining and a few others.
Now I know these drivers work well and I can re-install XP at any time, I am tempted to try a few other drivers (Win2000 ones which are supposed to work under XP) which I downloaded from geocities (XP_5058.zip & XP_5011.zip)

I very much appreciate your help.
Thanks again Gator.

Gator,
Well I finally have success.
I decided to play around with different drivers to see which ones would work.
Low and behold the first set which I tried work perfectly. They are 2K_5011.zip set downloaded from :-
http://www.geocities.com/ziyadhosein/rprow2k.htm
Again I have no standby / resume issues or DVD player system restarts. I have had these installed since yesterday and so far no problems at all.
I now also have all the extra ATI advanced settings :-) for tweaking everything.
Now all I need to do is see if these drivers work with ATI MMC7.2 so I can get all the video capture working again.

Here are the new driver details:-

5.00.2195.5011 (2k_5011) - This is a DirectX 8 based driver that currently offers the best gaming performance under Windows 2000/XP. OpenGL and Direct3d on all Rage Pro based cards are supported. All ATI controls panels are implemented. DXVA is not supported in this release. TV-out is functional. Most resolutions are available.

Supported Chipsets - Rage - Pro, LT Pro, XL, XC, Mobility - C, EC, L, M, M1, P

Gateway Support of Rage Mobility P

Gateway Support of Rage Mobility P

About a year ago I called Gateway support and asked if they would be supporting the Solo 9300 E Pro Laptop line under Windows XP -- Support that would include working drivers for the ATI Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2X (A21/2) cards that are built into them. The tech on the phone said "Yes, Gateway plans on supporting Windows XP for the Solo 9300 line".

I used Gateway online support about 3 weeks ago and asked the tech person the same question. He said "Gateway is still researching the drivers". My-oh-my. Naturally I asked the tech person how long the research was expected to last. "Indefinite" was the modest reply. I pointed out that it doesn't take a brain surgeon to install WinXP on a solo 9300 and find out that the only real big problems were with the video. (I really can't think of any other big problems with limitations xp has on the solo 9300!). But still, the answer was "indefinite".

The problem is that solo 9300's have 3 video displays. The LCD screen, a monitor out port, and a tv out port. Using Mr. X's drivers I can set either the tv out or the monitor out, but I can't figure out how to set the drivers to use both (ie. all 3) video displays at the same time. -- Not that anyone in their right mind would do such a thing, but heh. Probably involves editing the inf (eeek!).

Can someone tell me how to edit the inf to get all display out's working?

VFrost,

I had the same thing with Gateway and don't bother contacting them at all for support any more. Seems like their tech guys have no clue what they are doing. The last reply I got back from them when I asked about XP video drivers was to "By a completely new Gateway Laptop" !

Anyway, to answer you question, I am able to run all 3 displays at 1 time on my Solo 9300 with the ATI 5011 drivers I mentioned.
If I just plug the composite video out into my TV and press Fn & F3, the system will swap from just LCD screen to TV Out. Pressing Fn and F3 again gives me both TV out and LCD screen. Press Fn & F3 a 3rd time brings me back to just the LCD screen.
If I want more screens selected (VGA out) I have to go into the advanced settings. Select the Displays tab. You should now be able to turn on all 3 displays from here (Make sure they are connected as the box to turn them on will be greyed out).
Now you should have all 3 displays.
I noticed that when playing DVD's out to the TV, the screen was just blank when I had both LCD and TV out selected. I had to turn off the LCD display for the TV to display the DVD movie correctly.

Let me know if you are still having problems.
To date I have had no issues with the 5011 drivers and XP and have been extremely happy with them ever since I installed them last month.

TY Bob, -- I'm already using those drivers. =) Though, the problem I'm really having is with the behaviour that I'm getting from my computer.

My regular display is fine & works great.
Video out port works (so long as I set the correct refresh rate for the external monitor; which is a piece of old ...., but works more or less decently none-the-less).
TV Out shows the initial windows logo screen (the XP boot screen, if I may call it that), but when it gets into windows itself, all I see are streaked lines across the TV screen (it is an old TV too). In the control panel, I'm unable to set any settings for the TV itself.

Do you (or does anyone else) know how I go about to fix that? (Please don't be a "smart a$$" and say "buy a newer TV" -- UNLESS that's my only recourse..)

Thank you again Bob. =)

Solo 9300 XP Drivers

Hi, let me start by saying that I'm a complete computer moron, maybe a general all around moron. I have been doing searches for this and can't find answers for my questions.

I have a Gateway Solo 9300 that had XP installed a few months ago. I can't get the ATI TV to work now. I have looked for drivers but don't know exactly which one to download or how to do it. I downloaded the 5011.zip, as I read someone had success with that driver. That driver isn't an excutable file though and I have no idea how to make it do whatever it is supposed to do. Friggin computers:nuts:

I'm lost, any help would be really appreciated.

to use that driver, extract the files to a folder like C:\TEMP

then click START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM
click the HARDWARE tab
click DEVICE MANAGER
double click DISPLAY ADAPTERS
double click the video card listed
click the DRIVER tab
click UPDATE DRIVER
provide the location of the files (C:\TEMP)

it'll update the drivers and ask you to reboot ;)

Drivers, explanations and installation details are provided at my site, right where you downloaded the drivers.
Was it that hard to read the information there?

win XP, gateway 9300xl: the MMC 7.2 with the driver setup (WDM bt 829 from 5011 drivers and ATI m1 AGP 2X) doesn't work!!. .When try to capture video the system stalls... if any one managed it to make it work let me know
thanks
