Has anyone else cancelled their Win10 reservation?

Thanks man, I saw that one while browsing, and a few others.

I can't say I'll never install 10, but between the updates fiasco and microsofts direction on the privacy it's given me pause enough to wait a while and see what they do.

I figure 3-6 months should be long enough for reputable folks to separate fiction from fact and for MS to at least announce changes they plan to make. That still falls within the one year upgrade window for me, with hopefully less chance of any bugs ruining the experience for me. :)

I might actually be holding off installing for longer now due to DS4Windows' "Hide DS4" setting not working in Windows 10. Thought about it and not sure if I can live without that.

I know Dark Souls is one major game for me that needs Hide DS4 to function, but if its the only game then I may be able to live without it until a fix is pushed out. It would be a big loss for me as I still like to jump in for PvP once in a while, but meh. I'll survive.

Yup...just uninstalled, rebooted and hid the update when it returned.

God dammit, its still doing it:

Happening every night when I boot up the computer. Where in task scheduler would I find this?

Awesome...yeah you shouldn't have been getting all of those Failed install errors. Not sure why MS needs to go to such lengths to shove Win 10 onto everybody.

Oh yeah, should have mentioned it wasn't even in task scheduler. That 'setup' folder was empty. Something was just completely messed up and corrupt.

When you bet the farm, failure isn't generally an acceptable option.

As for the topic-- there was no reservation for me to cancel. I've been skeptical since they announced this whole "free" upgrade fiasco. I never intended to give up my retail Win7 license, since I felt sure the upgrade would end up invalidating it and giving me what amounts to an OEM license instead.

I never installed the optional "nag" update, so I've been lucky in that I haven't had to deal with the nonsense others have posted.

I will (most likely) eventually... begrudgingly... upgrade when DX12 becomes more of a thing, but not a moment before. And even then I'll be buying a retail license instead of taking the upgrade. I'm really hoping that Microsoft sees fit to backpedal on some of its more unreasonable changes in the coming months before I do, though-- forced driver updates is a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned, and I will not budge on that stance. I'm not particularly thrilled with forced "feature" updates, either, since I tend to pass on most of what they've offered in the past.

When I do move on to Win10, it will literally only be for DX12. Everything else (for the most part) will be ignored, and I certainly won't be using my MS account to log onto my PC.

I've been recommending it to friends and coworkers who have asked about it, though. It's honestly a nice upgrade in most cases... but in its current state it isn't something I'm willing to install on my own PC.

I would at least get your reservation before the free offer expires. I did search but can't find much on your old Windows 7 key but I'm sure that will still be valid. My understanding is if you have a valid Win 7 key the MS update website verifies it and issues you a new activation certificate for Windows 10 tied to the hardware. It shouldn't touch your old Win 7 key.

Mine was back this morning when I booted up

They're pushing this like malware - no joke. I went through all the steps again. See what happens tonight, but that gets under my skin. They even push it as an "important" windows update for 8.1.

Trolls

See that's the part I don't understand? Why the heavy handed forced crap.

I'm guessing they're trying to recapture lost ground from the Win8 rollout.

I swear if I see one more commercial telling how much kids will love Win10 I'm going to punch the TV

Oh man, that sucks.

Well at least its not just me then. Keep us posted on what happens on your machine. I will also let you know if it comes back on mine. Something tells me we will be fighting this stupid thing until we finally go to Windows 10.

I like 10 but I would be lying if I said there aren't issues. They'd be better off force feeding this after SR1, which should be coming in the next few weeks.

Probably lol. It's not like it's really doing any harm, but as hard as they're pushing it I'm expecting pop ups to start while fighting bad guys in DaS3.

I hate this kind of pushy crap.

Heck, I'm having Windows 10 issues and I'm still on Windows 7.

Yeah its not a big issue, just annoying. Not sure how big the update file is, but still to have it D/L and fail install every damn day is just stupid and I hate seeing it.

Hopefully tonight it will not rear its ugly face again.

Sorry, but I don't trust it. If the old license isn't invalidated, then why don't they just come out and say as much? Like you, I understand that the new activation is tied to the current machine via some generated hardware ID and your MSA, though I have no intention of using my MSA if/when I do decide to take the plunge. And not only that, but you're only "allowed" to revert to your previous install (and previous license) within the first 30 days of upgrading.

I know it's silly (and wasteful) to pass on a new, free OS, but for some reason I keep getting tripped up in the strings that appear to be attached to this whole deal. :runaway:

Same here, same thing here. :yep:
