Hellcat out, Mustang in

Just don't go to ShaidarHaran's "tuner" :bleh:

 Who says he even tuned it :p dude probably threw parts on and went full send.

Stock fuel is actually pretty good. The 18's and higher have both direct inject and port injectors. That's good for E85 naturally aspirated without touching the fuel system at all. It is also good for low boost setups on pump gas. The stage 1 kits for Procharger/Vortech/Paxton don't call for injector upgrades for example.

However, high output boosted applications (like Whipple or Procharger Stage 2) or any boosted with E85 will require injector upgrades. E85 especially will need a BAP or fuel pump upgrade as well.

I plan on running a Paxton supercharger kit with E85 later this year. For that I'll be using a Fore fuel system with ID 1050x injectors.

E85 is so good powerwise, it's like running on race fuel all the time. Plus it runs cooler than pump, better for your engine. There's lots of E85 stations around here with quality E85 fuel (that tests actual 80% ethanol and higher), I don't think I want to go back to pump gas for any tune, even boosted.

I would like to go meth injection or flex fuel but like I said, availability near me isn’t that great. The mileage on E85 is another issue. Just not something I could do 24/7. I’d love to do meth injection .. I’m still toying with doing EGR/TGV deletes (helps against carbon buildup on the valves) and then going meth injection to really keep it clean and also get a decent performance boost. I would have to grab a new fuel pump though and injectors would be really close to max duty cycle at WOT. This **** is a massive rabbit hole that I keep falling into lol.

Not sure if the Mustangs have this issue but as with any direct injection motor, make sure you keep an eye on the carbon buildup on the valves. I plan on doing my TGV deletes myself and when I have them off, I have a buddy who has a walnut blaster who can clean the valves for me. I’ve seen pics of people’s valves after only 30k miles and they are COVERED in carbon buildup. Not sure if your motor is susceptible to that since it isn’t a straight up DI system, but just something to keep in mind.

I want meth and I want it now!!!

On prior cars, I considered meth injection but was tentative about pump failure. It might be worth considering have two tunes, one for pump gas and one for race fuel, for when you want to go out and race.

Not sure about carbon buildup on these cars. I don't normally put on alot of miles so if it is an issue, I might not even see it. Only 800 miles on the Mustang so far and I'll put maybe 3000 miles a year. E85 also burns cleaner than pump fuel, so I'm helping the environment as well.

Nice to have access for E85. The two places I've lived so far don't have it. They do have race gasoline for $55/5g. Good lord the economics of that make zero sense if you can run E85 24/7.

Definitely jealous now that I'm stuck running boostane just to hold 15 degrees of timing. OTOH, my gen1 stock engine won't take much more power anyway. E85 would sure be nice for the insurance against detonation though.

It's probably not a direct comparison but I'm running 30 degrees of timing on 93 octane tune and 50 degrees of timing on E85 at 7000 rpms (redline at 7800).

I've enjoyed reading this thread. I test drove a 2019 GT in Velocity Blue yesterday with the balck accent package & the new 10 speed auto. It sounds so nice, great exhaust note. Right now I have a 2013 Camaro SS so I'm trying to decide if I should pull the trigger or not. Decisions Decisions!

I love the OP's black one posted here too.

I’d trade the Camaro for the Mustang every time.

They do sound great with the stock exhaust. My buddy has his with open headers and it’s ****ing nuts. So deep, amazing growl. They sound very satisfying.

Speaking of E85, we got some really good stations in central Florida. The one I use routinely tests 84%, there's a few others I haven't tried yet that even tests up to 88% ethanol.

I'm not running a flex tune so I need to test before every fillup. The tune I'm running is a straight E85R tune that calls for 80% and higher ethanol. There's a few raggedy E85 stations that are really only 50% or 70% ethanol.

Luckily testing is very easy and if I don't feel like testing there's an E85 facebook group I'm a part with people testing and posting their results all the time. So far, all the stations that have quality E85 have been doing so for years while the shitty E85 stations have always been shitty, so I pretty much know which stations to go to and which ones to avoid. That one I posted above is only 5 minutes away, very convenient, and always tests at 84%. Hope they never change their supplier.

Thx well I haven't had a car payment in a very long time so I've got to get my head past that but I might just yet. The next couple days will likely tell the tale :)

LOL Nice! Did you get the 10 speed or manual? Also what package/options did you get? If I had known, I would have gotten the package with drive modes (just because of the drag mode).

Thx!! Yes I got the 10 speed! No I'm similar to you mine came with the 301A which is the stereo , ambient lighting and some other stuff. Then theres another safety option package that includes adaptive cruise control & rain sensing wipers.

The truth is I didn't give a $hit what it had I wanted the car LOL. I agree drive modes would be nice I don't think I have them I'm actually not sure. I think that comes with the fancy 12" speedo screen thing but I'm not sure. I know I've got some toggle switches & one changes the steering feel but I think that is standard on the GT? I get the car tomorrow so I can see what it actually has and report back:lol: Active Exhaust would be a nice one too I think.

One observation so far. While the GT is a good bit faster than my SS was on paper it doesn't feel that way. I think I'm used to the grunt of the 6.2 which comes out of the hole quick with not much throttle. Might be trans gearing too. I notice the GT wants more pedal applied to get it moving. Another thing I find is whatever speed I think I'm driving the speedo says its a lot faster than that. This car is deceptively fast & I will have to be careful with that :)

The Camaro was a great car (bulletproof) but I find it was getting dated looking & I have admired the current Gen of Mustangs since 2015. And I can see out of this car too LOL.

The dealer probably put 87 octane in there, like they did with mine when i took delivery

If you have the 301a package then that includes the drive mods. You should be able to select Sport/Sport+/Track and Drag modes. Should be buttons for those somewhere in the center console.

Oh geez good point I told the sales guy I wanted the car alone with my girlfriend to test drive again last night so he said he would put some gas in for that. I didn't want him in it I basically told him you won't enjoy the ride this time :) Nice guy but dumb as a brick so yeah he put in 87 for sure Lol.

That' great if the car has those modes-bonus! I copied this from Ford's brochure it has these 2 option packages. And I see the drive modes now.

Equipment Group 301A (GT only): SYNC 3, 9-speaker
audio system, Selectable Drive Modes with 4-gang toggle
switch pack, SiriusXM,®1 dual-zone electronic automatic
temperature control, and ambient lighting with MyColor®

Ford Safe and Smart™ Package: adaptive cruise control
& forward collision warning with brake support, Pre-Collision
Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Automatic Emergency
Braking (AEB), automatic high-beam headlamps, Lane
Keeping System, and rain-sensing windshield wipers

If I didn't need a pickup I would have seriously been looking at one of these.

Haha yeah I'm lucky because I have a company truck I'm provided for work that I take home every night so I have that part covered. Otherwise I'd likely have a truck instead too.

When your E85 is more like E90, and your engine says "Yes please"

Smelled sweet as ****. Wanted to drink it. Also noticed the car felt alot more responsive, probably from the extra timing it was able to add.

Also bought a Dragy to accurately measure quarter mile times without having to go to the track.

Did some late night testing: 11.78 @ 122.76

Pretty close to my expectations actually, and pretty good for a naturally aspirated car. I'm certain I can run better times at the track, but this on the street is A OK in my book.
