House of the Dragon (GOT prequel)

Not a bad first ep. More Shakespearean than the old GOT. Characters already growing on me and ... dying... :bleh:

It's tough to judge, since it's only the first episode and just sort of starts laying the groundwork. The original series took about 4 or 5 episodes before things started really coming together.

This show definitely feels smaller in scope.

The joust seemed kind of pointless other than to inject some gore into the episode.

Nothing shocking so far. The first episode is pretty predictable in how it plays out. But, I did find myself getting drawn in a bit more as the episode went on.

Other than all the wigs looking goofy (I'm not sure if Daenerys wore it well, or if it was because there were only two characters that used them in the original), there weren't any red flags in this. I'll keep watching.

Ya considering the success of the original show it still feels a bit small. HBO is getting cheap. LOTR show Rings of Power starting on Sept 2nd has apparently 2-3x the budget.

This kind of show may be a memory after the Discovery merger.

Went in with apprehension -- fears of HBO taking cheap route and GoT losing the magic. Was a rocky start as I managed my expectations and tabled my misconceptions. By the midway point of ep1 I was completely engaged and convinced its going to be great.

GoT losing its magic? it lost it's magic fast in the last couple seasons, with the last season being a complete and utter disaster in every sense of the word. it went from one of the better shows in recent memory to a skidmark. on your review i want to give this a chance but i am very cautious.

EDIT: was decent. dr. who was good. for now the acting doesn't seem to be up to the level of GoT but I think it may improve.

It was pretty decent. Didn't have the same feeling though as when I first went into GoT. Not surprising since it's just more of the same. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
