How Does the GTX 1080 Ti Stack Up in 2019?

"This is a straightforward comparison pitting the previous generation GeForce flagship, the GTX 1080 Ti head to head against the RTX 2070 Super and RX 5700 XT in 39 games. We'll learn how the GTX 1080 Ti stacks up versus these new "mid-range" GPUs and if you should buy one, something that will be answered before this article is over.

For testing, representing the red team we have the PowerColor RX 5700 XT Red Devil and for the green team the MSI RTX 2070 Super X Trio and MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X Trio. Our standard GPU test rig was used, comprising a Core i9-9900K clocked at 5GHz with 16GB of DDR4-3400 memory. We tested all games at 1440p and 4K resolutions, for a total of 39 titles."

First of all even though the 1080ti beats out the 2070 super in most 1440 in frame rate. Those frames are so high anyhow and mostly over 100 you ain't going to notice 10 fps less at that point really. Now, compare it to 4k then 2070 super most certainly wins that battle. Looks like 1080ti going forward for high resolutions is going to not be as future proof as Turing is. Also, 2070 super is cheaper than 1080 ti was retail to begin with. 2070 super is by far the better value. I get the 1080ti now is holding up, but as far as buying one now (used of course) or having a 2070 super or 2080 super.. I'd go with either 2xxx.

and a very sad navi that still can't beat a 1080 ti :(


if there was a GTX 2070/80 & GTX 2080 ti without half the chip going to Tensor & RT cores they might be 30%+ faster than they are now
and this would not even be close

and we would have a GTX 2080 ti that would drive 4k/90 and the big format gaming displays

I like RT but it has been a year to get a game like control that uses it well
and would like the higher power card more
 
So if you have a 1080 Ti, wait for the next refresh in 6 months. The 2070 Super is really just the original 2080 for the most part which was on par with the 1080 Ti and why the 2080 Ti was released at the same time as the 2080 this time around. If the standard 3080 was 30 percent faster then the 2080 Ti you probably wont see the 3080 Ti until 6 months after.
 
Yeh 1080TI is rock solid. If you haven't already upgraded - don't! IMHO. Wait for 3080.

I was going to sell mine but instead decided to keep it for my AMD 3600 rig. It's a beast of a GPU.
 
Turn shadows to medium and post effects to high. Save $1200. Win.


Aside from RT it's not a big jump to 2080TI, the smallest in history in fact. I got mine for free but still think it's the biggest rip off in the history of GPU's, and I'm confident it will be remembered as such in generations to come.
 
With those games I mentioned I tried every combination possible and no combination was acceptable to me. If you played those games, let me which graphics combo got you 60fps locked at 4k. Specially with Elex and Evil Within 2 which I was most disappointed with 1080Ti performance.



Turning down shadows and post processing isn't going to bring framerates up from around 30 to 60 fps, more compromises are needed. The 2080Ti solved all my 1080Ti woes in that "got my 2080Ti" thread I made a while back, complete with benchmarks and comparisons.

No idea about those particular games, sorry dude. Did you try with shadows on medium and post effects at high? (and save $1200?). Me either, but 2080TI is still a rip off.
 
Of course, shadows is the first thing I lower in games. I spent endless hours tweaking games like Elex, Evil Within 2, Quantum Break, etc.. and in the end I would almost always settle for 1440p instead with everything on. Games like Elex didn't even give that much more fps when turning down shadows and post processing to medium. The 2080Ti I could go back up to 4k and put everything back on, minus AA if needed.

But if the solution is to "simply turn down settings", then we all might as well play on consoles. Like KAC. :bleh: And just get a regular 1080 non Ti and turn down a few more settings.



Overall a 2080Ti is considerably faster than a 1080Ti at 4k. $1200 (lower now looks like) is hard to swallow, but most people spent $800+ on a 1080Ti anyways. For me it was well worth it since I got it day 1 and fixed all the performances issues I was having, letting me enjoy the games I wanted to play at the settings I wanted.

I also don't think we're gonna see a 3080Ti until next summer. Much like we thought the 2080/2080Ti was gonna come out in Spring, it came out late summer instead.
 
When you put it like that, I have to admit you're 100% right! We can't lower ourselves to poverty pack KAC standards. :embarrassed: Ew... Almost as bad as Megaman.
 
Still waiting for the real 2080ti to show up. Basically no need to upgrade for me.

I suspect I will be doing a system overhaul before I get a new GPU though.

I recall voodoo5 reviews stating that $300 was too much for a video card regardless of performance and some were going as far as to say it would never be acceptable.
