How the **** is this not illegal?

Yes, the language is necessary here. To say I'm pissed, isn't even a good enough description.

Few weeks ago I ordered door dash to my work, new place popped up called "The Burger Den", rated decent, mid 4ish, thinking cool, I'll try it. Menu looks good, order it up.

I'm thinking, I wonder where this place is, so I try and look it up, cant find anything anywhere. Maybe its brand new? Oh well, like I said rated well enough.

Food gets here, I get the receipt, it's Denny's. Cute, so Denny's is renaming themself to get to to more clients. It'd be one thing if they reinvented themselves, the food was meh, dennys material, a little better maybe. But not worth the $22~ I spent on it. Lesson learned.

Well today, new place pops up The Meltdown. Menu looks fantastic, but I dont want another Dennys mishap again. I try researching it, I cant find anything online again. Wait, there is a food truck in the area called the Meltdown, must be they are doing door dash too now, sweet. Ordered it up.

Just came, was given the receipt.

It's dennys.

The Meltdown even has a website, zero mention anywhere on anything it's Dennys.

Seriously, how in the absolute ****ing **** is this legal?

The meltdown
has a blurb saying its by Denny's.
From a love of all things cheesy and the idea that mealtime should fit your mood, The Meltdown is the new go-to for handcrafted melts with fresh ingredients and a side of attitude. With flavor combinations you didn’t see coming, we’ve got you covered for breakfast, lunch, dinner or any snack time in between. And did we mention it’s brought to you by Denny’s, the people who invented America’s Diner (excuse the humble brag)? So sit back, order through our exclusive delivery partner, DoorDash and go ahead…have a meltdown….you earned it.

Sounds like they're Denny's offshoot virtual brands.

Since food delivery has gotten more popular because of the pandemic companies have been finding ways to get more money.

These are called ghost kitchens give it a quick google to understand it all. But basically one restaurant opening 4-5 online food brand restaurants to maximize cash.

Your story is hilarious though.

Anytime I order online I always cross reference with Yelp. If there is nothing on Yelp its most likely a ghost kitchen and I will not order. Uber and Door Dash made this super popular so you have to watch where you are ordering from.

With doordash/grubhub I only order from known restaurants that I would normally drive to but don't feel like it.

We have a place called I love sushi here that I've ordered from many times and it's a Ghost Kitchen.

Best sushi I have ever had outside of Japan.

The funny thing is that my mom, sister and mother in law (who is japanese and lives in japan) all agree that some of the best sushi is in the Tokyo airport lol.

Is that similar to Mr. Beast Burger being run out of Buci de Beppo?

Geez what's with that guy's eyebrows?

Other established chains have done the same thing with "virtual brands" that have been rolled out exclusively on the delivery services since COVID hit; Chuck E. Cheese (Pasqually's Pizza & Wings), Chili's (It's Just Wings), and Applebee's (Neighborhood Wings), among others, have done it.

On one hand, it seems a bit shady, but, on the other hand, it's also helped to keep those kitchens running and employees (and others up and down the supply chain) working by bringing in orders from people who might not consider the established "parent" brands.

It's not shady. It's just an acknowledgement that what people want from delivery/take-out is different than what they want from a sit-down restaurant, and adapting their brands & business to that. Since it's a different menu, I don't see the issue. If it was the same exact menu from Denny's but under a different name, that would be a bit more deceptive.

Doesn't hurt anyone. Pandemic made lots of large chains rethink the way they do things. Welcome to the new reality.

This just made me burst out laughing in the middle of a park, so thanks for that  sorry you had bad luck with it, it is a hit annoying. The way you wrote it made me crack up though.
