I don't think you can stop it if it's a win8 app, unless maybe the desktop app's installer give you the option to exclude adding to start.:bleh:

Tiles = Start Menu.

If your installer gives you the option not to add to the start menu, then that should do it. If not, then you'll need to delete them.

Tiles are not new Start Menu. What i am trying to say is when you install new application, entries for it are written to new Start Screen. Tiles are old Start Menu pins but since Windows 8 fails UI big time MS came up with lame solution to pin it automatically to prevent users from going to Apps and try to find there which is a nightmare to do. If you delete tile which is also useless you can still find shortcuts in start screens by going to Apps which is replacement for Windows 7 All Programs Start Menu option. If you decide to stick with Windows 8 i suggest wipe whole **** out as far as Start Screen goes, just leave Desktop tile there and crete shortcuts on your desktop with taskbar pins.

Go back to Windows 7, as i did too.

you can unpin them after you install

Exactly.

As with other OS's, some applications will always install to either your desktop or start menu/start screen, regardless of what you do.

Easier solution, right click and un-pin from the start screen. Problem solved.
