I'm decided to back to folding again...

I just installed on my old laptop again and configured fah6.exe and it looks good. I only set 85% usage.

It looks great.

I will install my desktop, but my RAM is needed to be RMA sooner. :(

Welcome back Treeck! And yeah, F@h is great at revealing system weaknesses, but probably don't need to throw already suspect hardware against it lol.

Thanks lol. I guess...

I have a question- either Arctic Silver 5 or MX-3 is safe to put on the laptop CPU? Just wondering.

Also, I forgot what kind of a program that can show the PPD? I can't remember.
I use HFM.NET now, because its one of the few (only?) that tracks the bonus points as well. Speaking of which, make sure you're using a passkey (click here if you don't have one) so you can take advantage of the most excellent new bonus system.

I didn't set the passkey, but I will try. However, I don't have time to do that.

And I just downloaded that program. I didn't know how to set it up...ugh.

Okay, if you're wanting to run SMP (allowing multiple CPU cores to process a single WU), you need to download the SMP client:

http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther

The one you want is the last one listed. Click the Windows logo to download (direct link), and be sure to check out the Install Guide and Passkey information link.

You'll want to sign up for your passkey first - this is most definitely worth your time, because the bonus system is tied to it now. If you don't use a passkey, you'll get a fraction of the points you'd get otherwise. Keep in mind that you have to submit X number of WUs successfully before the bonus kicks in (10 WUs IIRC).

With the SMP client, you will only run a single client. Since you're showing 50% on each core, I'm guessing you're running two standard clients instead. To configure, I'd take a look at the install link posted above. Short version, add -smp flag.

I already had that SMP client, but I just don't know how to add -smp flag...can you show me how?

EDIT: How about this one?

http://fahwiki.net/index.php/How_do_I_add_flags_using_a_shortcut_to_the_console_client?

That will work. The new client also allows you to add flags during the config process. To do that, add -configonly to your shortcut (following that wiki on adding shortcut flags). Running the client w/ -configonly takes you straight to the config script, where you input the information. Take this opportunity to add your passkey too. When it asks if you want to change advanced options, type yes. Leave everything at default, unless you want to run the client as a service, and watch for the option called "Additional client parameters". Type the following:

Code:
-smp -verbosity 9

Enter through the last steps and, after it closes, edit your shortcut to remove -configonly. Run the client, and you're now running SMP.

Ok, I just followed your post...I did check everything in the console correctly. But it seems still run 50% on each core.

I just removed all of the files and downloaded SMP Cilent again, I extracted it and created a new shortcut and put "-smp -verbosity 9"

then run the client and then I configured everything and especially I put "-smp -verbosity 9" in additional client parameters.

It now run 100% on each core! :)

Cool. Quick question thought - you added the client arguments to both the shortcut and in the client config parameters? One or the other dude, not both!

Why can't have both?
Well, if they're the same command, it "might" not cause any conflicts, but what the client is seeing is "-smp -verbosity 9 -smp -verbosity 9". Makes me head spin! :p

No biggie, just edit out shortcut to remove those, and it'll all be sorted next time you run the client.

And I just downloaded that program. I didn't know how to set it up...ugh.
Run the program, click "Clients" toolbar menu and select "Add Client". Input an Instance Name (ie Laptop SMP), input the system speed (gives you PPD/MHz numbers), and browse to your F@h install folder. Click OK, and it should be good to go.

Once you've done that, click File toolbar menu and save the configuration file (doesn't matter where). Go into preferences (Edit toolbar menu) and check the Load Configuration File box. If you don't do this step, you'll have to re-add the client(s) every time you run HFM.

Thanks! I got it working.

I just looked over my old thread about how to install a single client for first time. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33884805 it was in back 2007.

Is that a normal? I'm not sure if this is a really normal.

 I'm pretty sure MPI was taken out of 6.30 so I don't know why it would be popping up. As long as it's running fine I wouldn't worry too much about. This is what my client says when it starts and it seems to be doing fine :bleh:

I forgot how to configure SMP client till I remember how to configure it again. I was able to get my passkey back again by requested on the Folding@home passkey email. It's all good to go. I set this stock i5 3570K to run only 90% cpu usage as limit to be just be safe to keep temp low.

I have no idea what are the flags option. However, I put -smp for now. That's it.
