I'm decided to back to folding again...

Oh... and may I suggest that you use the newest FAH Client that can be found by following the links on the main FAH website: http://folding.stanford.edu/

I suggest this because the HD7950 will get you some REALLY good PPD if you use the Client-type=beta slot option.

Welcome back! :) That CPU should give you some pretty decent PPD.

Thanks!

Yeah, also it's pretty quickly compared to my old AMD FX-55. It was huge difference.

Oh, I forget to note this, I do not want to run 24/7, but let's say 5-8 hours per day. I don't allow the automatic service to start folding, but only manually service. I think I selected "no" for service startup. I thought I'm using the latest client and it's non-GUI console version?

Strange...the first WU was submitted and got another new WU...an hour later...but my stat didn't update at all. I was wondering if I had used the passkey 3 years ago, but this passkey is the same one that I received an email from Stanford as I requested?

Passkeys don't change. Make sure your username and team number are entered correctly too. It could simply be that the stats take some time to update.

Gotcha. Thank you very much. Understandable. I'll resume my FAH client to continue. I think I found 90% cpu usage limit is a sweet spot, but I'll try 80% to see if it's a little better sweet spot, so maybe I'll play the games sometimes to be just safe?

I just installed newest FAH client 7.3.6. But I didn't see client-type=beta slot option in there.

Right click the FAH icon located in the notification area of the taskbar and select Advanced Control. If it's not there then double click the Folding@Home icon on the desktop.

Click the Configure option in the menu bar of the FAHControl window. This will list the currently configured folding slots.

If you don't see a slot called GPU then click the Add button then select GPU from the 2 options available (CPU & GPU). If you do see a GPU slot then left click it once and click the Edit button.

In the Folding Slot window you will see a section called "Extra slot options". Under that you will see an Add button - click it.

In the Name: field enter client-type and in the Value: field enter beta. Click the OK button.

Click the OK button on the Folding Slot window.

Click the Save button on the Configure window.

If the GPU was already folding the next WU that gets downloaded will be from project 7663. If you just added the GPU slot then the 7663 WU will be downloaded right away.

I'm not sure the exact PPD you will get with the 7950 but I'm guessing that it will be at least 50k.

If you only want to fold on the GPU at night when you are sleeping then you could start the FAH client up before going to bed and once the WU starts to fold tell it to finish. That way once the current WU is downloaded it won't start a new one.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks! I'll report back. I have a question about my 7950. It will be safe and staying last longer as long as temperature is keeping low while folding? My card is Gigabyte 7950 Windforce. Last time, my 7950 was folding at full usage about 55-56C load. Does this sounds right to you?

If you're card is only at about 55c under full load you are going great. The Windforce cooler from Gigabyte is an excellent cooler. I have 2 Gigabyte GTX670's with the Windforce and they really are good cards.

8,000+ PPD/55-56C 95% load before client-type beta.

80,000+ PPD/61C 98% load after client-type beta enabled.

 pretty nice eh? Even part time folding will get you some nice points.

I found a best way to keep 7950 keeping cool down by set 45% fan speed as manually and created a new profile 1 on MSI Afterburner. 98% load and GPU 52C. VRM temperature 62C-63C. Not bad! How impressive this Gigabyte cooler is!
