Lookin good... We'll see how much of that is true.

I got a 7+ but may spring for the upgrade depending on what its looking like. Slightly annoyed they skipped the tick-tock cycle for the 10th anniversary. I usually get every new iteration 5,6,7 skipping the S versions.
Can't imagine Apple using a plastic screen after years of glass.
This report reaffirms the idea of Apple introducing three new phones in 2017: one flagship OLED-display device and two less-radical models (iPhone 7s?) that resemble the existing iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
It’s not clear whether the plastic OLED panel is what users of the phone would feel or if the plastic part is then covered with a glass layer on the iPhone 8. Apple has relied on Corning ‘Gorilla Glass’ in all iPhones to date with glass displays typically considered as more premium than plastic materials.
iPhone 8 is just the name this news outlet chose. Honestly, it happens every generation this far out before the launch when the name has not been confirmed. Before the 6S was announced all the news outlets were calilng it the 7. They just don't understand Apple's product naming convention or want to make their news pieces sound more impressive. Granted, I would not expect a redesign as drastic as this to carry the "S" moniker either... So either the rumors are simply made up or they may very well skip the S this time after all. Guess we'll have to wait until September to know for sure, as usual.
Name is not what makes it the 8. Its the new design. Rumors are saying they are coming out with a 7s and an 8. If Apple followed their own trend there will be only a 7s(no redesign) and I wont upgrade. But since they are breaking it and releasing an entirely new phone I have to break my 2 year upgrade cycle and get it.
Also, no way they are going with plastic... it feels so cheap. If its plastic I am not getting it lol.
I think that would be a huge mistake to refresh the 7 and release an 8 at the exact same time. I think there may very well be a high-end variant of whatever they decide to name the next iPhone, I doubt they'll name that 8 and the other models 7s though.
It's just the screen that's rumored to be plastic. The body would still be metal.
I dont want plastic anything. Plastic feels like **** and scratches easily as hell. There should be no noticeable plastic on a device of of the cost of what apple will charge for it.
Aren't all the AMOLED screen phones plastic? i.e. the entire lineups of both Samsung and LG?
Maybe under the glass.
If that's the case I wonder how they bond their screens then. I would think that would be difficult to do with two dissimilar materials like glass and plastic, but I'm not a chemist nor an engineer so I could be wrong.
I think part of it was a potentially newer version of what Samsung is developing and then adapting it to a curved surface.
Heck, the original iphone was supposed to be plastic capacitive. Having glass completely changed things.
The plastic will be covered. The challenge may be thickness.
I would think the flexibility of plastic would make it better for 3d touch also. I could definitely see Apple going this route and covering the screen with a thin layer of glass (if possible) to maintain the premium feel but gain all the other benefits of plastic OLED.
A lot of the "flexibility" is just recognizing the touch and then activating the motor isn't it? Flexibility, while important to prevent breakage, may not be that big a deal if it feels "flexible".
The haptic engine development of Apple is WAY better than anyone else out the there in phone or watch market.
Either way, I am excited to see what happens My 6s+ is still working well.
So I should not buy an iPhone 7 today?
