Is Lockhart happening?

  • Definitely. Nextgen consoles will be too expensive otherwise.

  • Nope. It's not necessary, given that most games are still releasing on xbone anyways.

  • No. Too many SKUs defeats the purpose of consoles anyway.

  • Yes, and Sony will be releasing a low-tier Xbox as well, called the PS5 series S.

  • Google Stadia's gonna gobble 'dem all ups anyway, so it won't matter.

Lockhart will still have advantages over One X even if it doesn't have more ram. Faster SSD means data can be swapped in and out of ram as needed, rather than sitting there waiting to be used. Faster CPU will translate to better performance, faster framerates, even with less ram... Textures may look muddy though.

Wouldn't that depend on the game? Good info on the rest though

textures may look muddy though.
With the new architecture and things like BCPack and SSD streaming it probably won't be an issue. RAM size won't be as much of a limiting factor when you can pull in texture assets at a ridiculously fast rate.

Of course there are still going to be lazy or less competent devs that won't take full advantage. Hopefully it will be to a lesser degree this coming gen.

Lower resolution means it needs less VRAM anyway, so games will have some, but mostly little difference.

People seem to forget that while the lockhart is "weaker" it's still going to be a faster than xbox one x purely because it's CPU is LEAUGES beyond the POS the ps4/xbx used.

So lockhart will play games or do things in games the last gen has zero chance of doing.

It's a smart move by Microsoft to target non 4k gamers, or those on a budget but still want to play next gen games.

HOWEVER

Their naming scheme is stupid as **** (whoever names them needs to be removed asap imo), and if they **** the name on this one up it's going to cause consumer confusion to the point where it will negatively affect sales.

The name is going to be the Series S.

S and X didn't seem to confuse anyone previously.

I'm sorry but the naming scheme cannot be defended lol.

You will have people saying, is this game compatible with xbox one x, or xbox series x, or xbox series s? etc

"No it's only compatible with Xbox Series X and S"

"so it's good with my xbox one x?"

"no"

etc etc

Ofcourse for those who spend all day reading gaming news, or are generally tech savvy will know this no problem. However if any parent is buying a console for their child and they have 0 interest gaming, then it becomes a pain in the ass.

Playstation 5 Simple name easy to understand, anyone with half a brain will know 5 is newer than 4.

They should have called it something else.

I don't think it's going to negatively effect sales THAT much, but the names are still dumb.

I can defend it just fine, citing just one example: Nintendo Wii.

"Hey babe, wanna come over and play with my Wii?"

Yup, "Series X" works just fine.

I don’t know if she got confused and played with my Wii first then the Nintendo later, I’d say the Nintendo had the better name ;).

So is Lockhart still less powerful than the PS5 based on rumored specs?

Yes but it comes down to resolution. Series S will be running 1080p-1440p with all the features of Series X.

If MS leverages it's DirectML tech with Series S then the gap could be closer than you'd think.

So there are 3 sex boxes now?

Yup,
You, your maid and your mum!

But seriously the Xbox Series name is pretty stupid.....

But then again they never really had a "real" progression theme with their naming....

Xbox > Xbox 360 > Xbox one

Guess they could just simply go Xbox 2 (with a 2 base (or 2S) and a 2X, 2+ or 2 pro)....but it's the 4th one so...makes no sense lol.

or call it Xbox Prime, Xbox Infinity...
