Is the Guide Plus still up and working?

ok well i see the US ver is no more but this thing is still not working
WHAT? More specifically what do you mean the US version isn't working? I just paused this reply to check and downloaded the Guide Plus+ updates through 2/1/09... Everything is STILL A.O.K. Did you read the entire thread in how to do the little hack(s) to the registry to get it working.

becus there is no us servers but right when i posted right after that i got it to work
But the reason i said that is b/c the only thing down is the US Listing Server....the rest of the US Guide Plus servers/structure is still in place; the important parts for sure that bring you the EPG.

That's why i was trying to get you to clarify what you were saying so that people that come to the post don't think it's down. They just need to read the whole thread to know how to get it to work. (Edit registry).

Using the suggested URL's to replace all 3 URL addresses in the registry, mine finally works.
Thanks to all who participated in this adventure.

By the way I'm also making MMC work with 650 PCI card. Just battling with record quality.

Hey, that's interesting. Is the 650 PCI tuner your only tuner (running) in that system?

That might be interesting TV Wonder 650 in MMC. How well does it work? Are you able to use the DTV tuner part of MMC to tune OTA HD channels with the TV Wonder 650? Or does it just recognize it as an analog tuner?

BTW glad you got it to work.

I decided to switch some cards around...so I can confirm

I decided to switch some cards around...so I can confirm

I can confirm that if you simply just add the http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp to the first string of the registry and haven't already run Guide Plus that you dont' have to do the Antenna switch around thing. That's only needed if you have already tried to search for your cable lineup and it failed b/c you didn't have a current URL listed. At that point EVEN IF you add the current URL You still will get no listings until you either 1) completely uninstall everything and reinstall adding that URL into the registry before you ever start Guide Plus...or 2) the simple way if you've already unsuccessfully had it search for listings is to add in the correct URL & then do the antenna download before switching back to cable (read instructions above & end of page 1). PEACE!

Booosh!

>> Win XP, ATI AIW X1900 <<

After multiple post-G++ Server switching re-installs of MMC for the usual variety of ATI reasons as well as trying a variety of web-forum fixes I have discovered this:

- The Regedit URL Fix (http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp) works. It has worked for me in Oakland, CA, USfkyeahA, for at least 8 recent installs in the last 9 months.

It works. Trust me, I've been working with ATI AIWs for the last 12 years & I feel your continuous pain. Just try it. No need to reinstall EV-erything as has been our long suffering usual ATI method. Follow the aforementioned regedit path & paste. Totally works.

Happy Birthday Sexy Lincoln!

Hey Guys, I too was beating my head on the wall trying to get this program to update the listings. I had a virgin install and try everything you guys said, but to no result. So I wrote Macromedia (seems they hadn't sold Gemstar just yet) This is what she replied, I followed the directions and BAM the program updated!!!!! I sure hope this helps everyone.

To get ATI Guides back online:

1. Delete all files in these directories:

C:\Program Files\Gemstar\GUIDE PLUS+(TM)\ATI\download
C:\Program Files\Gemstar\GUIDE PLUS+(TM)\ATI\panelad

2. Within the computer's registry:

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GEMSTAR\ETV\URL

Find the strings:
"1" http://www.gemstarguide.com/gdndl/gdnget.asp
"2" http://www.gemstarnet.com/gtidl/gdnget.asp
"URL" http://www.gemstarguide.com/gdndl/gdnget.asp

Change string "1" to http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp
string "2" can be left alone
string "URL" SHOULD be http://www.gemstarguide.com/gdndl/gdnget.asp

I don't see how you could have followed my/our instructions and not gotten it to work? We solved the problem if it was a virgin installation; both where you tried to get the update listings first (before editing the registry with the current URL) & got the documented error (listed in this thread) you simply add the URL into the registry & then do the little antenna selection trick I layed out (((This is the same as if you had it installed for years))) -or- if you start with a clean install and didn't already try to update listings, you just immediately go & do the registry editing adding in the URL before you attempt to connect (that method is the same as what you describe above except you dont' need to delete folders in either case).

I had it installed on many systems some done as clean installs and some in place etc. I throughly tested this and while it's Fine to completly uninstall and delete those files (and if Guide plus becomes corrupt that's your only recourse). But otherwise you dont' need to un-install and you dont' need to delete those folders. The instructions are otherwise exaclty the same.

Wait, you are able to get MMC 9.6 to work with your TV Wonder Pro under Vista?

Hi everyone,
Just reloaded an older system for streaming and backups. I was at a complete loss wondering why the guide wasn't working and was begining to think guide plus+ was dead and gone. I was lucky enough to find your post here and now have a working guide!

Thank you all. You saved me some serious time trying to figure it out on my own.

Since this thread was recently bumped, I'd like to follow people to this link as I am in the same boat: http://www.rage3d.com/BOARD/showthread.php?t=33949313

This is a pretty active place and I'd appreicate the help. There has to be other people in Canada that used this program years ago and need a new EPG, like me. I'm lost without hit, I hardly watch TV anymore.
Hey, I don't see where you say you tried EXACTLY what we got to work in this thread, and that it didn't work? Because you should be able to at least (1) Verify that you have set it up correctly by following the info on that thread (namely changing that URL download address in the registry setting. if you haven't already tried to get it to look for the updates. ==OR== if you have tried unsuccessfully then you need to not only update the download URL in the registry but you then need to do the little work around I laid out to get it to search for updates again.

My suggestion would be to start out by getting it to work for a ZipCode in the U.S. so that you know you have it set up correctly. Because despite the DTV conversion in the U.S. they are still publishing the EPG data and since other systems rely on it, it's not clear that it will be disappearing anytime soon.

This Gemstar Guide Plus is a dead program and dead technology. It doesn't matter if it works anymore, its no longer supported. There ARE NO MORE UPDATES. Which means no new EPG listings. So I need a new EPG altogether, like ATI had with Gemstar Guide Plus. I've had so many views on my old thread and yet no real help. I'm lost and no one can give me a good EPG for Canada. I NEED one asap.

NO! No, it's not dead!! And YES, although ATI & the now third or fourth owner of Gemstar Guide longer support it; it IS VERY MUCH ALIVE and FUNCTIONING JUST FINE!

If this thread (and a few copy cat threads like on Anandtech.com etc.) had not posted the STILL WORKING URL then you are partially correct there WOULD have been no way to get updates, however, they very much did post them adn so for now we DEFINATELY have a working not obsolete EPG for AIW's etc.
READ THIS POST CAREFULLY:
SKIP PLAN A b/c it's obvious YOU HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO DOWNLOAD THE updates - get it to work on a completely new install & PLAN B - to get it to work on a system that you have already TRIED to get the updates but gotten the error messages back (despite having make the correct addition to the registry - added the correct URL); so that you don't have to un-install it or delete the registry settings for Gemstar, b/c just a generic run of the mill add/or Remove programs WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM and neither will re-installation. So follow the instructions and the little work around tricks.
=========================================================================================
SO, let me answer your question by first asking you TWO questions; since I have already told you that it very much works...and ASKED you to list what you have done, b/c it's quite clear that you have not done the steps I laid out on how to get this running. either that or you are mistaken or not understanding something....

First question give me your zip code so I can plug it into one of my systems and see what my results are.... The only possibilities here are you are not doing something correctly OR they somehow stopped EPG programming for ?Canada? yet very much provide it for the U.S....but that's not likely.

Second, what SPECIFICALLY have you done. List your steps; to get this to work. You complain no one has helped yet I told you all you need to know it in this thread already!

Two possibilities: You didn't follow/read carefully and made an error, -OR- they shut the EPG off for all of Canada? Since it's very much still working in the U.S. Which is more likely?

It REQUIRES you to manually enter (REGEDIT) the registry AND if you (since you obviously have) attempted to download the NEW listings without FIRST changing the URL in the registry then it requires a few fast changes in the program to "trick" it into getting the correct information. See the original thread. and this time POST THE STEPS you have already tried b/c it works

To be sure that you've done the steps I listed correctly I STRONGLY SUGGEST: try using a U.S. postal 5 digit code first. Once you know that you have followed the steps correctly and gotten the lineup for any random U.S. city you will simply go back into Gemstar's Guide Plus and change the Zipcode to your Canadian one....If at that point, you get nothing then you know two things. One, you finally have set it up correctly and two Canada is shut down....(i doubt it).

Otherwise you'll have your listing back!

October 2009 gemstar?

October 2009 gemstar?

I can no longer process downloaded listings for Vancouver, Canada. I just did this a couple of weeks ago, though. So, something has changed. Unlike before when we had to change the URL, this time it downloads the listing but stops when it tries to process them and reports an error and says to check date, location, zipcode.

I changed location to Kansas City (since I knew their zipcode) and it worked ok. So, what is happening in Canada? Anyone know?

Had to re-install software for HDTV Wonder 'cause TV display window was showing a "corrupted" picture - colors messed up and picture distorted. After re-install, Guide Plus would not connect. Found this forum and read through entire thread. It seemed to make the most sense to try the instructions in your post since you actually contacted someone at Macromedia and weren't just changing things at random until something worked! I made your changes and I'm back in business. Downloaded listings and am current! Thanks!

I'm in one of my feisty moods, but that post you quoted was HORSE POOP!

Gemstar Guide Plus+ was a special set up for ATI cards, from a long time ago. Since then anyone associated with the program at ATI has been canned (FACT - Entire All-In-Wonder division let go); further, the original owners have now passed the rights to this particular EPG programming through at last count 4 hands...3 at the time of the claimed email (which was of course not provided) and SAYS EXACTLY THE SAME THING WE SAID TO DO.

Also, on this board, yours truly included had fired off emails to the previous owners TV Guide and Macromedia and received non-support replies (because as far as they are concerned we don't exist). They are not running the URL for us, we just happen to benefit from the ability to have a program that can still interpret and use the information. That is why the work around(s) are necessary. If they knew or cared to they would simply use the default look-up URL and have it point to and redirect our program to the current URL for downloading the information.

...Maybe some good person out there will buy the lookup URL from them and find out how to redirect it to the download URL like the program was designed. For the other guide programs that are supported and on the radar of the the current owner they of course need no such tricks as there programs get updated and get correct URLs from the get go.

I'm a bit piss=ee this AM, maybe i'll be back and delete this but...some people worked hard on this, and you thank someone who first says he tried everything in this thread to get it to work but couldn't (COME ON!) and i believe is Bull$#itting that they got an email which says to do the same thing (With a wholly un-necessary deletion but harmless step in the beginning) we listed and then he got it to work?!?!?

============If it's a Clean installation you only need to change one URL in the registry that's it=============
The comment about changing things at random... well you from one perspective tweaking can / could seem like that...but it's not as though it was a willy-nilly anywhere in the registry start changing things. And if it weren't for trial and error changing you wouldn't have guide plus up and running. The email story FAKE! This was the only board that had got it worked out... An Anandtech forum member posted to great admiration over there (clearly copied the info from here) and then didn't bother to site this board. LAME!
