Is the Guide Plus still up and working?

Mine is working too, but, the channel line up #'s are wrong! Even with the box not checked, it presented me with two channels and asked what's on those two channels and all 3 options were wrong! I also have no listings at all for all major networks! No ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, PBS, etc., all grayed out! Many channel #'s are also wrong.

I tried again this time with the box checked "Le me choose channel line up again", this time it asked me what channel shows the "Discovery Kids Channel" , 100 or not available, so I chose 100 since that is correct. And now in addition to all networks gone, channels 100-200 are missing!

Anyone that has got it working, is in the USA and happens to be on Cox cable, can you please post your zip code? Maybe that will work for me. I tried several local zip codes here and all have the same problem. (Baton Rouge, LA).

Can someone please also post your Registry values from this area:

Code:

Thanks.

I had this same issue once I had to re-install Guide Plus when I reformatted last year. More info and a screen here: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?p=1336081550#post1336081550

Also, my GP is up and working again! Awesome!

See post #114. That might explain it, but I don't think that explains how they can show up here posted, then vanish, then show up again.
That happened when a previously cleared post is edited, then flagged by the spam filter and put back into the mod queue.

I understand its a hassle, and apologize for the frustration, but its a necessary evil to combat spambots. We try to minimize the impact to legit accounts and try to be as responsive as possible in clearing legit posts from the mod queue.

Hello,
We apologize for this issue. There was a hardware issue that has caused this service to go down. Everything has been fixed and is working. If you continue to have an issue, please try reinstall the ATI Guide+ software.
Thank you,

They're back!

They're back!

I received the same message. I'm skeptical as to the claimed cause since I know that someone changed something on the server.
Even so, well done everyone! It forced ATI to sit up and take notice. Of course this could also be a double-edged sword. Now that they know there are a bunch of us out there using the software they might try to impose a charge.
Ah well...

Merry Christmas!

I already got my present. :)

I think I might be able to speak for most when I say....having to deal with an occasional there/missing/there post is worth it, to not have to deal with even more spamming parasite scum. ;)

Thanks for the info, I know many have been waiting on that kind of a response.

I got the same message, as I'm sure many of us did. I'm glad we have our listings restored but, I think we need to keep squaking. We need to know who owns Guide Plus+ for Windows (GP) and what their future plans are. If they're not interested in supporting the software, now would be a good time for us to know.

We have friends at Schedules Direct (SD) that have been following this thread. They feel our pain. On our behalf, they've reached out to the contacts they have -- I wouldn't be surprised if that's what saved us.

SD would be willing to try and build something to feed listings to GP but, there are some legal issues. The first hurdle is that SD is not allowed to provide listings to commercial applications.

The big questions are:
Who owns Guide Plus+ for Windows?
Is it a commercial application, freeware, abondonware or what?

It's a big world and I've only seen a small part of it. But I've only ever seen Guide Plus+ for Windows deployed through ATI's Multimedia Center (MMC). ATI/AMD no longer supports MMC and seems to have no interest in GP. I can't find anywhere to buy GP and I've never seen a price tag on it. That sounds like it could be classified as freeware. But only the legal owner can say. And until something like that happens, we're all stuck in this limbo.

For what it's worth, here's my blurb about SD:
---------------------------------------------
I could be wrong on a few points, but for those unfamiliar with SD, the story goes something like this:

They're a non-profit group composed primarily of volunteers. Until a couple/few years ago, Tribune Media provided free listing data through Data Direct. That data was used by many (if not all) open source and commercial PVR-type programs. When Tribune shut down their free service there was a bit of a scramble to find a replacement. None existed. As the void was being filled by $$Zap2it$$, SD was born. I think they initially wanted to provide free listings but could only get the data through a licensing agreement with Tribune -- paying them for the data. Because of that, they have to charge a fee. But being non-profit, the fee is kept as low as possible. As part of that agreement, there are restrictions on what SD can use the data for. That's just business... Tribune is not non-profit. Like any other commercial enterprise, they're in business to make money. So they sell their data for the best price they can get. And to not create competition for themselves, they put tight restrictions on the data they license.

If SD was allowed to provide low-cost data to commercial software developers and/or people with cash, it would reduce Tribune's potential customer pool. But generally-speaking, the likes of us and open source software developers can't afford Tribune's rates and are not potential customers worth any concern.

Hello Schedules Direct. Their lower rates are good for us while Tribune gets to enjoy some pocket change from a single customer as opposed to setting up accounts for the few of us that could actually pay their higher rates.
---------------------------------------------

Personally, I think our only long-term salvation would be with SD. And if given a choice between getting my listings from the current source or paying SD a small annual fee, I'd pay SD. I'm tried of all this hastle and mucking around. I trust SD and absolutely have to respect what they're all about.

Seasons greetings to all,
Lupine is doing a great job -- but the cat worries me.

Lemonhead37,
Your post is probably hidden, awaiting admin approval. In the meantime, lets try using a different zip code with the offending computer and see what happens.

I'd try one from down the block or around the corner. If it keeps failing, try the zip code from the working computer.

Let us know what happens.

Thank you guys for researching this to a point were things work again!!!

Ok both puters are "shaking hands" with the server. One is able to get listings, fine no problem. The other will go thru the motions but get no listings.

Here is the regedit:
is it correct???

Default REG_SZ (value not set)

1 REG_SZ http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp

DATAVER REG_DWORD 0x00000002 (2)

LAST DOWNLOAD REG_SZ 200912241750

rercent REG_SZ http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp

URL REG_SZ http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp

Sorry, had it all spaced correctly, prevue post ran it all together

Note: puter that works again with no problem is in area code 95124
Puter that wont get listing but will talk to the server is 95023

Don't know if it makes a diff.

Thank you very much again.

Happy Holidays

Was it ever working on that computer?

Yes, long ago.

Your reg values look like mine, except:
URL = http://www.gemstarguide.com/gdndl/gdnget.asp

Tried that.

I don't know if that url matters, but it's worth trying. It might also be worth trying a full channel scan in MMC again.

Funny, i didn't get to do that even with a new install, That file must remain after a uninstall. Where would that be? so i could delete it and let the app find channels again.

If it still fails, I'd uninstall/reinstall Guide Plus (not ATI stuff).

Did that too (this morning).

Also did the delete files from C:/gemstar/guideplus/ATI/panelad/ And also C:/gemstar/guideplus/ATI /download.
.

Just to mention... Listings are stored in the /db folder.

For a full channel scan in MMC, start up the TV and go to settings. On the Display tab, look for an "Initialization Wizard" button. There is a more direct way to scan for channels. But in your case, I'd redo the initialization.

I'm assuming you've also already ruled out firewall and anti-virus problems. And I might out of ideas.

It really ticks me off, that maybe due to the change to everything digital, that the main channels I always use this program for, I don't have listings anymore for those channels. It just says "no listing" across the grid. One stopped working when i had to re-install the program last year, and now the other don't work with the newest update.

YTV East, Channel 25, no listing.
Teletoon, Channel 50, no listing.

For Family, Channel 51, I have listings but no names for episodes.

Can i delete the whole folder?

If i had those problems, i would think i wouldn't be able to get on the server, but i can!

Update: Changed the zip code to the same zip code as working puter and guess what? It downloaded the listings. Fine. I'll just switch it back and it'll work right? No. I could tell by the time it took for the listing to "download", it had failed, but this time i didn't get the error (of it). it also didn't do the deleting, filing, sorting, thing that it does when it starts a new listings file either, thats another tell tale that the download failed.

Hi Lemn,
(insert unoffenisve seasonal greeting here).

Lets forget about the listings for a moment. Don't be insulted by these questions. They have to be asked...
Does the computer in the offending zip code have TV reception?
How many channels can you view?
What cable company are you using?

I had the same problem (see posts #134 & 139), but eventually it corrected itself after numerous zip code changes/change backs and changing around the options chosen from that list when "Let me choose channel line-up again" is checked.
