Media Center Edition 2005 and ATI AIW: Works Fine.

"Digital Audio Service" problem

"Digital Audio Service" problem

This discovery was unpleasant. I thought the entire recordings taken during last week of Olympics were all waste. Good thing I was able to find the workaround by googling.

In case you are not familiar, the recorded show will playback in MCE for about 5 secs, then the video turns dark blue with "Digital Audio Service" shown on screen. The audio will continue to play.

I did not discover the problem till now because the video & audio will playback fine at the beginning.

I am sure I will eventually find the solution by checking out all the MCE sites & blogs, but if someone knows how to fix this, a link would be appreciated.

MCE Static

MCE Static

I am using an AIW9600pro on MCE2005+rollup2. Whenever I tune/record a cable channel the video is fine but audio goes from fine to short and long bursts of loud static. The problem is for sure with the recording from the AIW tuner and has nothing to do with my sound card.
..........
Is there an easy way I can have MCE record through my soundcard and the AIWs audio line out? Would this be static free?
....
System:
P4-2.4C on Asus P4P800, 1.5gb memory, MCE2005+all updates/rollups, AIW9600pro, HDTV Wonder, using latest Catalyst 6.2, HDTV Wonder 6.1, Encoder 9.13.
As for the static, does it happen with your HDTV Wonder card?
I believe that you must use the NSP drivers with MCE - the ones that need no input into the sound card. On the other hand, I do not know if the kram drivers use that method or not (probably do, as they trick MCE into thinking there is an eHome Wonder).

I have not experienced your problem, even though I have a similar setup. You may want to try forcing the 4.07 WDM drivers (SP) that use the soundcard with the cable to the line in jack and see if there is a difference. I think you can try to separate the driver while doing an install and use it instead of the NSP one. Check:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33822416
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?p=1333926477

Also check that the RF cable from the wall (if that is what youre using) is not grounding out or defective by swapping with a known good one, and also checking (or temporarily removing) the splitter, if you are using one. Check if you are getting interference from other things like internal fans (GPU or CPU) or other appliances.

How is the video quality for AIW on MCE? As I stated in my post, I found it pretty bad. MMC without TV on-demand is superior. I thought I checked everything, driver versions, default recording settings, etc. I also re-installed MCE with Kram drivers; no difference.

Comments anyone?

thanks for the info rtwaits.

Tonight I spent a lot of time pulling out all of my PCI cards and trying various inputs into my AIW9600. The audio static is always there, even with all PCI cards removed and even when using the L/R RCA audio inputs instead of the tuner.

I tried to test the audio input from the HDTV analog wonder tuner, but I couldn't figure out how to get the audio out of the HDTV wonder analog tuner. MCE2005 will let me select the "ATI DTV Analog Capture Device" but won't tune channels. Windows Movie Maker will capture the video but doesn't provide a source for audio capture ("ATI Rage Theater" is available to capture audio from the AIW9600). I'd love to test analog audio capture over PCI on from the HDTV wonder to see if the static is there or not.

And yes, video quality from the AIW9600 though MCE is of course horrible as it is first encoded into MPEG.

OK, I just discovered the excellent Winamp TV plugin and was able to test audio inputs. The static is always there on the AIW9600pro and never on the HDTV wonder.

I posted a while back of my issues. Actually I haven't even really formatted at all since getting my problems. Due to the problems I tried going gungho and updating everything. Apparently Rollup2 really helped stablize my MCE. I've since kept fully up to date w/ Windows Update and it's ok so far. I also strongly recommend DECCHECK.EXE to play around with the installed drivers to find one that works well. Typically other video software (esp DVD software) will try to hijack any (deliberately) older Catalyst/MMC drivers.

Since my last post until today I've only had very few issues with recording/timeshifting. Sometimes scrolling a flash/media-heavy site will stutter live TV. Occasionally I would have either the "digital media service" (remedy with DECCHECK or System Restore). I once had persistent loud white noise on new recordings and live playback, but that was remedied on reboot. Sometimes the vanilla Remote Wonder lags out and crashes because MCE is too busy chugging through menu levels, so I set up a restart macro for the RW service. I even used the 'net stop' batch files recommended, but ended up using it with AMCap SVideo (NON-LAGGING PS2 gaming), not even touching MMC.

Good luck in your setup.
I can check my installed/used drivers, but I believe it's the same drivers I used when I last posted..

off topic Edit:

just catching up on Crossfire news. Need to upgrade eventually to PCI-E, but decided to never upgrade my AIW 9600pro until ATi can fix these issues:
- AIW series + component input... all the next-gen consoles have component resolutions, and ATi is missing out on the bandwagon
- AIW series + Crossfire support... they are not making me want to upgrade to anything crossfire until AIW can be used at least as a slave card. And I don't want to have to tack on the added cost of a TVW Elite on top of dual crossfire, just so I can use PVR functionality.

Ain't gonna happen. ATI isn't going to piss off Hollywood by providing the capability to record hi-def from difficult to secure component input. If you want the capability to display hi-def game console material on your computer monitor and all you have is component out, then you will have to get a component=>VGA convertor.

Well, I'm using the AIW 9800Pro with MCE 2005 Rollup 2, and have had problems all the way through. However, with these 6.2 drivers, I am very often unable to make a recording. The problem is a stuttering and choppy TV playback. Sometimes, however, this stuttering isn't there and I am able to make a recording. VERY annoying!
It is sometimes able to record, regardless of the stuttering, but when it then plays back, it only shows the Digital Audio Service screen.
Have anyone experienced anything in this manner?

Wow.. that's all I have to say, I bought Visiontek Theater 550 TV card and I can't remember any card ever which I would've had more problems with. Been looking around a solution how to get this thing even installed in my system and came across this thread. I tried putting it into my new system with Asus A8N32SLI-Deluxe board and the board doesn't even detect the card, tried it in my work computer and windows wouldn't even boot, I got it working for a while on my old machine with XP Pro, but it needed reinstall bad so I decided to make a media center PC of my old PC. I loaded MCE 2005 SP2 and the old PC detects the card as Multimedia Controller but just refuses to install the drivers, either crashes right away or says it can't find the drivers from specified location. I have used version 6.12 and 6.13.

I'm very close to retuning this POS card but though i'll give it one more try. Here's my system specs:

Abit AN7
Ahlon Xp2100+
ATI 9700 Pro
2 x 256MB Ram
Visiontek Theater 550
Via Envy 24 Sound Card
Few drives

I'm just now installing MCE 2005 SP2 on it and I red the first post of this thread and it seems like Catalyst 5.7 and 550 Driver version: 6.14.10.52 is way to go. Is there any specific order one needs to install the drivers/software?

Update! Unbelievable crap..... fresh clean Windows MCE Install, windows installed all the updates and installed Catalyst 5.7 drivers and everything was good. Installed the card and it found it as Multimedia Controller again and installed the 6.14.10.52 drivers and reboot. System comes up with found new hardware again and same Multimedia Controller and when I try to point it to the drivers it says it can't find them. Removed all ATI drivers, reinstalled 5.7 and I downloaded the latest 550 driver from ATI and installed it and now I have ATI unified AVStream Driver under Sound, Video and Game Controllers with Yellow ? next to it (code 10).

Got it working with Catalyst 5.3 and going through pretty much every version of 550 drivers, but it's quite far from stable, lost signal and crashes when trying to record.

Hello all.

I just installed WinMCE2005 and got pretty much everyhting running but I need to know how do I get MCE do display on my TV? I have an AIWX1800XL connected to my TV through component cables (I can currently watch movies no problem) So far MCE just come on my monitor and on my TV I see my extended desktop.

Alright found it, I just dragged and maximised MCE on my extended desktop, just like I do when I watch movies.

One question, when I play a movie through MCE does it use the player it has or what player does it use? The movie has an mpg extension.

i can confirm i have the same problems, although i'm not running mce. it seems to be a general cat 6.2+ issue with the audio static w/ aiw9600 pro and nsp (dig-audio) drivers.

if you use winamp tv, you can get a little help by forcing analog audio through the plugin settings (audio tab, analog from the pulldown), but it seems like the drivers eventually give up after watching tv for long periods. seems to be heat-related, and a reboot will temporarily bring back the audio.

well, because of an unrelated psu fan problem, my case is running open, so heat's less of an issue for tv viewing, but i still can't record reliably for more than 1 hour.

crossing fingers hoping the next driver release will fix this.

Help me with AIW 9600!

Help me with AIW 9600!

I have MCE 2005 with AIW 9600. I get yellow exclamation mark in device manager after installing below mentioned drivers.

MCE 2005 with Catalyst 5.3
ATI WDM Rage Theater Audio
ATI WDM Rage Theater Video NSP
ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar
ATI WDM TV Tuner

MCE 2005 with Catalyst 6.4
ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver

Each time I installed a driver, I used Catalyst Uninstaller to get rid of existing driver. I can't watch TV with it because I get TV Tuner failed to initialize error. Help me watch TV.

Disable automatic windows update to prevent the computer from automatically downloading drivers off the internet after you uninstall and reboot. Then, install the latest MCE Catalyst drivers off the ATI site. After you have the drivers installed, you need to install the ATI DVD Decoder (if you don't have a decoder installed already such as PowerDVD or Ligos or something). This can be obtained in the ATI MMC download section. You will need your original CD that came with your card before it allows you to download it.

My AIW X800XL works perfectly with MCE2K5. I like it better than Beyond TV and it's about a gabillion times better than that crap ATI MMC/Gemstar.

I get a media center receiver error until I either disable the ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver or the service itself... I have the latest drivers and other software besides MMC, on a clean xp media center 2005 install. Rollup 2 has also been installed.
Any clue on what to do?

Wow .....I just managed to upgrade my rig to MCE 2005 with my All-In-Wonder 1800XL and it really really puts MMC to shame.....

Everything just works the way I want it too.....only downer is we cant use our own encoders like divx......but I can live with that.....!!!

.....No more sleepless nites!!!

I'm having the same problem.

I had my machine (with AIW9700) working great using Cat 6.3 (I believe) and Enc 9.13. (This was a while back, and I don't remember, just happen to have these still on my system so I assume that was what had worked)

Anyway, I've had graphics corruption that I hoped I could solve with new drivers... whoops! Now I can't get my system working.

I get the "media center receiver service must stop" error every 5 seconds.

Has anyone got Cat 6.6 to work? Are we supposed to download DAO/MDAC, DVD Decoder, Encoder and MMC (as I did), or do you just go with the Cat 6.6 package, and the ATI media centre extension?

Also, why are there two versions of the encoder still (6.6 in the MMC download page) and 9.13 in the Media Centre Encoder page?

Anybody have ideas what combos work?

All you need is the Catalyst 6.6 driver/WDM and the Encoder 6.6.

xp mce 2005 and ati aiw x800xl tuner not showing in device manager

xp mce 2005 and ati aiw x800xl tuner not showing in device manager

Hi all, this is my first post, i just got mse 2005 installed, put roll up 2 in also. Now here is whats going on, I have a AIW X800XL card so i put the cat. 5.3 in and everything went fine except i get a yellow explaination next to ATI WDM TV Tuner in the device manager. Can anyone help me get this card working so i can watch tv. when i go to mce it says Tuner not found. This is my second day trying to get this set up. From what i have read is that the ati aiw x800xl should work with mce. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out so any help yould be great.....thank-you

I just got a copy of MCE 2005 and installed it on my PC, I'm running an AIW X800XT. I have to say that everything worked beutifully. I think ATI got their act together for once.

I installed MCE 2005, and installed .NET 2.0, Catalyst 6.9, and Windows XP MCE Encoder.
I then installed all the parts of the MMC except for the MMC itself. That included the DAO/MDAC, DVD Coder, and Encoder.

I works great, I haven't had one single problem. No lock ups, no yellow bangs, etc. Plus, I think the interface is superior to the MMC. I love it!

Yup, no lags with audio/video. I know this because I have a TV in the living room that I've been watching the MLB playoffs on (because it's hi-def), and watching/recording on the PC. The sound was identical on both.

If I could just find a way for the AIW remote control to change the channel on my cable box, everything would be perfect.
