I am torn between spending money or keeping it simple. I could purchase a brand new 2016 Ford Edge Titanium Plus for about 40 grand or buy an Audi A6 2017 brand new for about 35 grand. Alternatively my heart is in the new Range Rover Velar not with too many fancy options for about 75 grand. I also saw the Mercedes GLC coupe 250 which was similar priced.

Head says buy cheap. Heart says buy big as I tend to keep my cars. However the recent financial burden I have been through have given more control to my head than my heart.

I need to purchase a car as my Ford Edge is completing its 9th year and in past two services I have spent 3.5 grand on a/c alone. In 6 months expenses for axel shaft and new tires are expected for another 3 grand. If I go sell the car I think I will get no more than 3 for it..

What other cars should I consider? I want an SUV primarily.

If you're talking just SUV, I really like the Toyota 4-Runner. They are actually useful off road unlike most other "SUV" class vehicles.

The new Acura RDX, Audi Q5/7, and Ford Explorer aren't bad either.

I just dropped off an Audi Q5 I got as a loaner, it's about as nice as my A6, though its newer high rez displays are nicer. For some reason the suv is wider than my car but the seats are narrower. You would have to get the 3.0 though, as that turbo 2 liter is just not enough. Should be able to pickup a newish/cpo for around 40k.

If you are going cheap, which is probably not a bad idea until things settle down, do you really need the Titanium package for the Edge? Probably not. The Edge is a capable vehicle. If you are good with the ride quality of the Edge, you won't do much better for the money.

The Audi and Acura SUVs will have a smoother ride, but you will pay for it.

This and a goat. You're welcome.

Ford Explorer Limited and be done with it. More space than the Edge, can get all the good options, probably about the same price.

My wife doesn’t like the explorer.

We don’t have Acura, we have Honda here and it has some seriously ugly cars like the CRV.

I didn’t think about the Audi Q5. Will check it out tomorrow.

Buy something 2-3 years old for 20k. A month ago you were almost on the street, don't be stupid.

He is every married mother of 1 in the town I grew up in driving an escalade ESV financed over 8yrs because their wealthy neighbor with 4 kids and a Great Dane got one.

Weren't you hurting for money just a month or two ago? :hmm: What's the reasoning in buying a new car vs keeping the old ones?

i can't facepalm hard enough at this thread.

between this and the multiple thousands of dollars you dumped into bitcoin because "it was what i had left in my savings!!" it's just mindblowing how you make so much money yet have to ask simple financial questions over and over again.

you were just on the rope for $40k in credit card debt that somehow magically disappeared with your first paycheck (lol) and now you're talking about buying a new car or going cheap.

are we for real? what do you think is the glaringly obvious choice .........

If there was any doubt that KAC is a bot... :bleh:

What's a good 20K used car? I will not purchase anything lower than a 2016 model.

My 40K debt was half paid off and half converted into 6 EMI of which 2 are also paid.

My wife has been badgering me for a Range Rover Velar since we saw it the other day. :runaway:

I am set on buying a brand new 2016 Ford Edge for a fraction of the cost. Let's see after I test drive this crap.

good to see that you've obviously totally learned your lesson from your recent financial disaster

/sarcasm

Best of luck!
