Nintendo 3DS Priced.

You're paying for 3D technology, comparing it to the wii is apples to oranges.

I don't see the problem, this is the exact price point that was expected.

I don't see the problem either. $300 I would of been wtf, but $250 seems to be ok. The 'ds' is a hot name with a lot of power behind it. The 3DS is going to be arguably the hottest handheld device.

I don't know. I expected it to be closer to the DSi or DSi XL prices.

With 3D tech that allows no need for glasses?

I don't see how you could ex[pect it to be $169.99

I said around.

$250 is a lot of money for a handheld especially when the Wii costs that much.

Remember nintendo is targetting children so the PSP pricing structure doesn't quite fit the bill as well.

$250 for a handheld and $50 for games my child may break is a bit steep.

I'm more disappointed about the fact it'll be region-locked. I buy a ton of Japan-only games, and I really dislike the prospect of having to buy a separate console for them.

Specially since it's being priced for $250, and knowing Nintendo it'll take ages for the prices to go down.

this is where i was coming from, though i guess maybe ipod touch pricing structure could have influenced the price increase as those have turned into handheld gaming devices and are in that price range

Nintendo once said high prices tend to scare customers away and that there are sweet spots for handheld gaming devices, this isn't a sweet spot and they probably know it too, I was hoping below $200 at least or $189ish, that would have been perfect. Still, it'll probably sell out fast and then you'll see it on ebay for twice as much. Personally im just gonna get an ipod touch :bleh:

Agreed.

When I bought my DSi it was about $50 more than the DS lite at the time, That's about 35% more expensive. People were shying away from the DSi even because they didnt feel the extra money was worth it. Granted this is a new device but it's also 2x as expensive as the bread and butter DS Lite.

It's not handheld computing or a smartphone. It, as a handheld game device fits better here.

Nice try though!

There used to be a handheld gaming device subforum... It went away when they made the Smartphone and Handheld Computing subforum.

Price seems high but it's a first gen gimmick device. I expect it'll come down on par with 3D tvs.

Hey, there's a cool new subforum for this kind of thing!

which covers "even gaming handhelds." :)

Lets be realistic, that is the phone forum. With the purpose of getting it out of off topic.
A DS/PSP is a portable console about gaming, not computing.

Eh, was hoping for around 200. I'll have to wait and see anyways. Probably pick one up after the initial rush to get one wears off.

And yeah, I have no idea why they tried to move DS/PSP to the phone forum. It's much more at place here.

250 is quite expensive... but you know what you get out nintendo products though. A very good life cycle and amazing first party games. Mario and Link games are too good to pass up even when they are on portable devices. Not to mention Pokemon, hopefully those devs will hop on the 3D bandwagon and make a compatible game.(pokemon needs something new so bad).

I wont pick one up at launch(I bought 2 DS lites at launch) but I will eventually get one.

I still think its pretty bulky...I was hoping for at least DS lite form factor..
