NVIDIA might ACTUALLY be EVIL... - WAN Show December 11, 2020

Yes this thread is pretty much DOA. Also discussed elsewhere on these forums.

This is why I don't buy Nvidia because they have a history of strong arming developers, reviewers etc. You don't even know who to trust when it comes to an honest review. I also know they still have many undercover influencers called used to go by the guise focus group on various places on the internet, such as youtube, instagram, facebook, twitter, hardware forums, reddit etc. It's endless. The marketing is deceptive and I suspect even illegal in Europe.

They are backing off because they got called out. It's not over. But it's nice to know that social media can be a double edged sword in the favor of the consumer sometimes and these massive youtube stars can actually do the right things for us consumer.

You mean like pushing, The Red Team?

I was very close to two focus members and talked to them virtually every day when I gamed on Ati hardware for years and years. We would debate the strengths and weaknesses of Ati and Nvidia hardware. When Ailuros from Greece and Chris Ray from Tulsa came clean about the secret nature of the focus group at Beyond3d, when Dave Baumann was Editor, was very pissed and felt betrayed.

They both reached out to me and apologized and wanted to tell me but couldn't because of nda's and eventually came clean. One of their messages was trying to improve flexibility and tools, especially with their filtering behind the scenes.

Amd had an advocacy program called, Red Team Plus. I had no problems with this or focus groups as long as the individual clearly offers they're a member. A member may help with questions, share information and experiences, support issues, and avenues to reach the company.

I never heard of this
Had to google it... and found:
https://community.amd.com/t5/blogs/meet-the-members-of-red-team-plus/ba-p/415415

they post their pictures and names... seems pretty open. Nvidia does not operate this manner. They contract out another company to ''hire'' influencers. Even though these people still have access to Nvidia directly. They don't want to be seen. Defeats the purpose. To be honest, I'm not sure how they even operate this division anymore. It's been a while since I had a source in that circle.

The infamous 'Nvidia Focus Group' was a known shill group.

Nvidia is not evil but they play a lot nastier than the competition. No comparison really.

The group was made up ordinary passionate gamers like Ailuros and Chris Ray, not PR professionals. The mistake that was made initially was not proclaiming, which pissed me off and a sort of betrayal. I can see how someone may think Shill based on its secret beginnings and fair. It was wrong and too aggressive.

Don't forget Rollo.

They still post without proclaiming who they are. They have a ton of influencers through-out social media, that much I know. What I don't understand is how this is even shocking to the masses on youtube etc. They have been bullying and bribing for a very long time. They are not a consumer friendly company by any means, and so it's baffling how they don't share the same perception as Microsoft or Intel, because they are probably worst. But that is the power of marketing, and they are the best at it. That much for sure. On the same tier as Apple.

I don't know, all I do know from first hand, they were very respectful to me asking permission to use two of my quotes in an official press release. And I'm a nobody.

There was a point in history where forums where a big target for nVidia PR. Well known members of various fan forums where recruited. Rage3D was one of the many well known hardware sites they focused on. Other would have included HardOCP, Hardware Heaven, Beyond 3D, Guru3D, Elite Bastards etc etc etc

Wow that is such a nice thing to do, I think I changed my mind about their anti consumer practices. :twitch:

I was debating focus members daily when I gamed on Ati. Never had a problem as long as it was listed. I had a big problem when it wasn't

I think they offer a lot of value for their customers. Nothing is stopping Amd to compete. This anti-consumer is a weak argument and hurts Amd.
