Official AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series (RDNA 3) Thread

Not bad considering for an AIB model. Id read theres not much diff between most of the top AIB models in terms of how much they oc and the gpu heats... Id not pay 100$ more for a saphirre over a powercolor or xfx...

Got the card and installed it. Looks to run awesome. 55C under full load. Dead Space runs way better. Game is still plagued with the random stutters though. Hopefully the devs will continue to work on that. Now to try some other stuff.

Some benches...

Time Spy

3080: 16174
7900XTX: 24426

Time Spy Extreme

3080: 7969
7900XTX: 11944

Port Royal

3080: 11192
7900XTX: 15674 (not a huge gain but that's to be expected)

Decent numbers... I wasnt expecting the 40% increase in port royal score tho I hadnt looked at that in reviews much. Thought it would roughly be maybe +10-15%. Is that score stock or oced? Hows the card for noise?

The card has a bit higher stock clocks than reference. Not running any current overclock on it though. Noise is good until fan speed gets to around 50% or so then it gets audible above the rest of the system.

Thanks... noise is a subjective issue tho so I look at many opinions on it not just reviewers. Id read asrock was bad for noisy fans but local buds asrock 6700xt wasnt an issue unless gaming and then you could hear the fans a bit but just barely above case fans. Whisper quiet on desktop. Some had said XFX was noisier than others as well.

I am running into that memory clock bug where it refuses to idle. AMD still has yet to fix it apparently. Usually people with multiple high refresh rate monitors get it, but somehow I'm seeing it with my single 55" 4K TV running at only 120Hz refresh.

I have multiple and I def get it.

Seeing all the issues with the 7900XTX I think I'll swerve a GPU upgrade this time around. I really don't need to upgrade from my RTX 3900 as Pax said so I'll wait until next year to see what AMD bring out. Sad AMD just can't to seem to get their GPU launch right even now in 2023. Well that's the way it is I guess.

Besides rumors are RDNA4 might not be that far out:

https://wccftech.com/amd-talks-rdna-...n-near-future/

On a closing note, Rick Bergman, AMD's EVP of Computing & Graphics Business Group) shared the GPU strategy and promised to evolve to the RDNA 4 generation of GPUs with higher performance than what we got with RDNA 3. What's even more interesting is that the word "Near Future" was used which would suggest that the next-gen might be coming sooner but we still expect to see those in 2024 as the red team has various RDNA 3 launches planned throughout 2023.

Summer 2024 I think unless they can put out a driver that ups perf on Navi3. I imagine its possible they just put out a driver that ups RT perf on navi2 by 40% in one test...

https://www.newsdirectory3.com/amd-r...atest-drivers/

AMD Radeon RX 6000 “RDNA 2” GPU, up to 40% better ray tracing performance for 3DMark DXR with the latest drivers.

Just put my hands on a Gigabyte 7900 XTX Gaming OC and the coil-whine is beyond tolerable. Tried pretty much everything from undervolting to power limit to fps cap with no success. Also, the card runs rather cool.
I can RMA or swap PSU, as my current one is an Antec Truepower 750W. From what I've been reading on the web, I'm afraid PSU swap is perhaps even more of a hit and miss than RMA.
Any suggestion on which path to take is obviously appreciated.

I just read that the white version of the Asrock 7900XTX replaced its 70 amp Dr Mos chokes with 100 amp ones... maybe the power delivery had issues with the top end amd chip. Id trade it in for another brand if you can.

Yeah, the age of 8Gb coming to an end. I mean... not surprising as cards are now reaching 24Gb at the top end.

12 Gb are entry level now. I wouldnt personally touch anything under 16 Gb and at 500$. So still waiting.

Many peeps selling 7900xtx for 900 or less on hardforum. If you are blindly brand loyal, that's a good price to pick it up.

Stupid prices have started to fall under MSRP, even Ngreedia, so its a good time to wait.
